Helwiyah Ropi, "Faculty of Nursing Must Generate competent Graduates”

[Unpad.ac.id, 17/07] Dean’s first period (2005 – 2009) Faculty of Nursing (FIK), Hj. Helwiyah Ropi, S.Kp., MCPN., asserted that her faculty continue to produce graduates which is competent. That statement is attended to the new dean of FIK that already inaugurated, Mamat Lukman, S.KM., S.Kp., M.Si., when were found after the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday (15/07) in the Executive Lounge New Rectorate Building 2nd Floor , Jln. Dipati Ukur 35 Bandung.

“I expect to the new Dean to continue the program work that has been proceed and struggling to promote the faculty so they can continue to produce competent graduates and to develop better quality human resources,” Hj. Helwiyah wished.
According to Hj. Helwiyah, to produce graduates who are competent, the Dean must recruit more teachers and improve the quality of the educators. Other than that, in order to support the learning activities of students at this time based one Student Learning Center (SCL) is necessary to equipped with adequate facilities and infrastructure. “SCL a form of small group discussion will need to be supported with a lot of small classes,” said Hj. Helwiyah.
As a first Dean of the faculty that produce nurse staff, Hj. Helwiyah has many meritorious in developing FIK that has been 4 years at the time. Recipient of a master’s degree from the University of Western Sidney is always noticing to the quality of teaching for her students.
This proven with the constructed of five gazebo which is located on the top floor of buildings in the campus, so students can discuss in the natural surroundings. The sport’s field as supporting for extracurricular activities of students will also be built when she led her faculty.
Her attention on improving the quality of the educators at this time amounted to 52 persons, become a booster for 10 lecturers that has education S-2 and S-3 abroad through Dikti scholarships. That Amount is not added with the lecturers that continue studies in Indonesia.
At the end of the position, Hj. Helwiyah successfully convinced to members of the Unpad Senate Assembly Meeting to change the name FIK into the Faculty of Nursing. As told before, changing the name done as a consideration of the scope of the program that owed by FIK, which is academic program that includes S-1 and S-2, and the profession program.
Hj. Helwiyah also pioneering of e-learning in her faculty and has been twice made the learning process for the lecturers. By this learning, lecturers are expected to be diligent to making writing in blog and add knowledge through that technology. Thanks to her hard work also, FIK graduates are now spread across the country and also abroad, from Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, to Kuwait.
A woman who was born in Palembang, on 13 May 1951 initiated her career as a lecturer in Unpad in 1975. She achieved a degree in nursing at the Faculty of Nursing Sciences, University of Indonesia (UI) in 1989 and achieved MCPN degree after finished her S-2 education in 1997. Now after serving as Dean of FIK Unpad period 2005 – 2009, Hj. Helwiyah will be busy as assessor of National Accreditation Board (BAN) Indonesia’s University. She will also be busy as the committee for the Eyckman building preparation that used for students FIK, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Pharmacy. (eh) *
