Armed Forces Commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo: In Indonesia One Needs To Comply with the Rules

[, 23/11/2016] Armed Forces Commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, invited the entire community, including students to unite, strive, and work together so that the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) do not disintegrate. Moreover, nowadays many threats from the outside is set to weaken the life of the nation.

“I remind you that students are to unite the nation,” Gatot said during his presentation as Keynote Speaker at the National Seminar on “Increasing the Resilience of Nations to Maintain the Integrity of the Homeland” at Graha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad, Jl. Dipati Ukur No. 35 Bandung, Wednesday (23/11). This event held by the Faculty of Psychology Unpad in collaboration with the Department of Psychology of the Army to commemorate the anniversary of the Faculty of Psychology Unpad.

Furthermore Gatot said that the student’s role in unifying the nation has seen of the struggle for independence, including during the Youth Pledge era. Likewise, when fighting for reform, students are instrumental. Therefore, students need to know the various challenges and threats of the nation today.

To the participants of the seminar, Gatot also delivered some of the challenges and threats of today. Among them are the threat of terrorism, drug threat, economic competition, and the challenge of the demographic addition.

Gatot said that the potentials and natural resources owned by Indonesia can make other countries envious and wanted to master them. Currently, there is a threat from the outside to divide the Homeland. Therefore we need a community effort to jointly defend it. Fighting spirit and mutual cooperation is considered to be the feature of this nation since the fight for independence and need to be maintained.

He also reminded that unity in diversity is a mean of unifying strength of Indonesia. This is what currently being attempted to be broken down by outsiders, including by pitting people of Indonesia through the establishment of a misleading opinion.

According to Gatot, Indonesia possesses many potential, strength, and exceptional advantages. The downside is that many communities with higher ego is more concerned with personal or group interests. The weakness is that it will facilitate outsiders to divide the nation.

“Indonesia is mine, Indonesia is yours, Indonesia is ours. We may say it is mine, but remember Indonesia is also yours, but remember Indonesia is also ours. We must comply with the rules, with our common consensus. That is the real Unity in Diversity, “said Gatot.

He also quoted the first president of Indonesia, Sukarno, who declared that the struggle would be more difficult if it is done against his own nation. “We’re now experiencing it. Then we need to prevent incitement and provocations,” said Gatot.

On the occasion, Rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad revealed that it was the persistence and commitment of Universitas Padjadjaran to jointly build the nation’s communities, so that this nation can move forward and compete with other nations. It is also evident from the lyrics of Universitas Padjadjaran Hymn, where as a human Unpad public servant homeland nation builder.

“For the citizens of Universitas Padjadjaran, our efforts to keep the Homeland has become a part of life. Because every time we all sang Hymn Unpad, in our hearts and souls of citizens Padjadjaran University, the connotation of strength for we are human beings, homeland nation builder public servant,” said Rector. *
