[unpad.ac.id, 24/7/2018] Student of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Padjadjaran, Muhamad Fadillah received an Award as the Best Position Paper at the 4th ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting (AFMAM) 2018 in Singapore, July 2-8, 2018. The award was won by Fadil as he performed at the Minisetrial Meeting of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) which carried the topic of Deepening Trade, Services, and Investment Integration.

“I (was there) to play the role of Minister of Cambodia, emphasized the importance for ASEAN countries to improve investment laws and regulations so that investment paths will be easier between that countries,” Fadil said when contacted by Unpad PR.

Fadillah explained that AFMAM is an annual event organized by the ASEAN Foundation, an ASEAN body engaged in education and youth empowerment. Each year, this event is held an event to engage and introduce the young generation to the negotiation mechanism in ASEAN.

Each year, the ASEAN Foundation selects outstanding students from ASEAN countries to participate in ASEAN session simulations to discuss the relevant agenda of ASEAN.

“AFMAM emphasizes the importance of the way ASEAN reaches an agreement, namely the principles of consensus, non-interference, and quiet diplomacy by means of communication, coordination and negotiation,” explained Fadil.

From Indonesia, Fadil joined the Bhinneka team with six other students. They are selected after passing the selection phase involving 162 teams.

Fadil said, six students are divided into three councils according to the pillars of ASEAN, the ASEAN Political-Security Community, ASEAN Economic Community, and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community. Fadil was assigned to ASEAN Economic Community.

“AFMAM 2018 gave me opportunity to be exposed to the negotiating process taking place in ASEAN. As ASEAN’s future leader, events like this are very important to broaden knowledge and networking with other students from ASEAN who have the same vision and mission, “said Fadil. *
