Unpad and the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime of the Republic of Indonesia Send Community Engagement Students to Bima, West Nusa Tenggara

[unpad.ac.id, 18/7/2018] A total of 25 students attended Lecture of Community Engagement (KKN) 2018 Expedition Nusantara Jaya (ENJ) which was held on the cooperation of Universitas Padjadjaran with the Coordinating Ministry of Ministry of Maritime, from July 21 until August 15, 2018.

For almost a month, students conducted Community Engagement ENJ in the village of Bajo Pulau, Sape Sub-district, Bima, West Nusa Tenggara. In that site, students learn to understand the cultural diversity and tourism potentials that are expected to be one of the efforts to improve Indonesia’s competitiveness.

Elected students from 12 Faculties in Unpad were officially released by the Director of Education and Student Affairs Unpad Prof. Dr. Wawan Hermawan, M.S., at Bale Rucita Unpad Rectorate Building, Jatinangor, Wednesday (18/7). This ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Secretary of Human Resources, Science and Technology, and Maritime Culture of the Coordinating Ministry of the Republic of Indonesia, Elvi Wijayanti and Secretary of the Directorate of Education and Student Affairs of Unpad, Aji Sasongko, M.Si.

In front of the students, Prof. Wawan advised students to be able to improve various soft skill during the program. This is established to create new ideas that can be implemented into research and community engagement activities.

“Once you home after this program, were expected to come out ideas that can be used as a proposal Student Creativity Program (PKM),” said Prof. Wawan.

Accompanied by a lecturer, students will learn a lot about community life. They are invited to see the various local potentials that can be implemented into programs, from education, social, environment, to economy.

Like the other community engegement activities in Unpad, Prof. Wawan asked students to make an academic report upon completion of this program. He also expected Unpad students to maintain the good name of the alma mater.

Meanwhile, Elvi Wijayanti said that the participant of this program were selected student. Overall, only 10% of total applicants are qualified. The selection is based on the proposal submitted by the expedition applicants.

Elvi said, this program is very effective to prepare the young generation in order to optimize the potential of maritime in realizing Indonesia as a maritime axis of the world. This potential is not only from the fisheries sector, but also includes tourism, mining, and services.

“It is estimated that the potential of our maritime economy is 1.33 trillion US Dollars per year. We need to increase the quantity and quality of productive resources, “Elvi said.
