Unpad Holds Rector Election for the Period 2019-2024

“This time the Election of the Rector is the twelfth since Unpad was established and the first since the era of PTN BH (State University of Legal Entity),” said Executive Secretary Board of Trustees of Unpad Prof. Dr. Erri N. Megantara during a press conference at Unpad Executive Lounge, Jalan Dipati Ukur No. 35 Bandung, Wednesday (25/7).

Unlike the previous mechanism, currently the Election is conducted by the Board of Trustees (MWA) which has 17 members. All of the members have the right to vote except the Chair of the Academic Senate and the Rector.

The members of MWA who have the right to vote including the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, the Governor of West Java, as well as representatives of lecturers, communities, alumni, students, and administrative staffs.

“Of these 15, the Minister’s voice is still different from the others, it takes 35% of the total votes,” explained Prof. Erri.

Prof. Erri explained that according to Unpad’s Statute, the Election of Rector prioritizes deliberation and the voting will be held if only deliberation was not reached.

In its implementation, the MWA has established the Rector Election Committee (PPR) that will carry out electoral mechanism, from facilitating socialization to plenary sessions. Members of the Committee amounted to 11 people, including representatives of the Board of Trustees, Academic Senate, lecturers, students, alumni, and administrative staffs.

“So the nature of this committee is that implementing, not giving or issuing a policy,” said Prof. Erri.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of PPR Prof. Dr. Hj. Diana Harding, M.Sc. revealed that currently the Election of Rector process is entering a phase of socialization. Socialization has been done in various media and locations.

Prospective selection and administrative selection will be carried out on 6 to 27 August 2018. The next step will be the medical examination on August 31 to September 6, 2018, and competency test on 3 to 17 September 2018. Rector Candidates will be announced on September 17, 2018.

Furthermore, the election and stipulation of the Rector will take place from 18 September to 11 October 2018, and the inauguration will be held on 2 April 2018.

The general requirements of the Rector Candidate include having an academic degree of Doctor and having the lowest academic position of head lecturer from an accredited domestic university or an overseas recognized by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education. The candidates are expected to have vision, insight, and interest in Unpad development.
