Law of the Sea Facing Globalization
[unpad.ac.id, 11/21/2018] Indonesian Center for Law of the Sea (ICLOS) Faculty of Law of Unpad held an international seminar “ICLOS Conference 2018: UNCLOS & Artificial Island Beyond National Jurisdiction” in Multipurpose Room Building 2 Unpad Campus, 35 Dipati Ukur Street, Bandung, Wednesday (11/21) and Thursday (11/22).
Director of Unpad ICLOS R.A. Gusman C. Siswandi, Ph.D., said that international seminars discussed various issues that emerged in the development of global marine law. One unresolved issue is the claim of developing an artificial island outside the national jurisdiction of a country.
Furthermore, Gusman said, to answer these various issues, the seminar presented a number of key speakers, including Prof. Dr. Alex G. Oude (Netherlands Institute of the Law of the Sea Utrecht University), Dr. Aniruddha Rajpurt (member of the UN International of Law Commission), I Made Andi Arsana, Ph.D. of Gadjah Mada University, as well as a number of other speakers.
The keynote speaker in this international seminar was Professor of Law of the Faculty of Law of Unpad, Prof. Dr. Etty R. Agoes, LL.M.
This international seminar was officially opened by the Unpad Rector Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad. In his remarks, the Rector hoped that this seminar could produce various new thoughts related to the development of the law of the sea.
The Rector explained, the issue of transforming globalization into a discussion in this seminar because of facing the era of industrial revolution 4.0, the development of the law of the sea is also expected to be increasingly widespread.
“Talk about the law of the sea, not only territorial speaking, but globalization also plays a role,” said the Rector. *
