[unpad.ac.id, 11-13/2018] Professor of Pharmacology and Therapy in Unpad, Prof. Rovina Ruslami, dr., Sp.P.D., Ph.D., received the “Habibie Award” for the field of medical science from the Human Resources Foundation in Science and Technology (Science and Technology HR Foundation).
The award was given directly by the Chairperson of the Science and Technology HR Foundation Prof. Dr. Ing. Wardiman Djojonegoro in an event held at Le Meridien Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday (11/13). Besides Prof. Rovina, awards were also given to two other national scientists, namely Prof. Dr. Eng. Mikrajuddin Abdullah for the basic sciences and Prof. Dr. Elvin Aldrian, B.Eng., M.Sc., for the field of engineering science.
“The purpose of the Habibie Award is to give awards to individuals or bodies that are considered very active and have great merit in finding, developing, and disseminating new science and technology as well as beneficial for the improvement of welfare, justice and peace,” said Prof. Wardiman.
Chairman of The Habibie Center Board of Management Prof. Dr. Sofian Effendi, M.PIA, said, Prof. Rovina was considered eligible for the Habibie Award for her dedication in developing the treatment of tuberculous meningitis. Research activities on TB that have been carried out since 14 years ago are very much needed in Indonesia. Because the prevalence of TB in Indonesia is still relatively high.
Since 2018, Prof. Rovina was elected as secretary of the TB Program of the Union, an international union to fight TB and pulmonary infections. This position has also become an international recognition for an Indonesian researcher who works in the field of TB.
Prof. Sofian added, Prof. Rovina has a high number of Scopus h-index publications. “She is also considered as a physician scientist who is still rarely found in Indonesia, because She is still capable of conducting research activities.”
The award ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Unpad Dr. med. Setiawan, dr., and a number of academics from FK Unpad. Dr. Setiawan said, this award was a pride for Unpad.
“This is an acknowledgment from a foundation or institution towards the achievement of one of our professors,” said Dr. Setiawan.
Unpad itself, he continued, already had five scientists who had received the Habibie Award. It is hoped that Unpad will have a program that is able to encourage academics to obtain similar awards continously.
“There are still many figures at Unpad that are worthy of receiving awards. We can, including in the field of basic science and engineering,” said Dr. Setiawan.
Award for Prof. Rovina was also directly appreciated by the Indonesian Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani. When becoming a key speaker at the event, Minister of Finance encouraged Prof. Rovina to answer the challenges of TB problems in Indonesia.
“The government itself has committed to provide a large investment in research and handling of TB,” said Minister of Finance. *
