Chairperson Suci Rahayu Safitri said, the book grant program was a follow-up to the activities of the Telusur (Explore) South West Java that was held annually by BEM of Fapet Unpad. A total of 20,226 copies of the book will be donated to schools and early childhood education institutions (PAUD) in Cipatujah of Tasik, Karangwangi of Garut, Cidaun of Cianjur, and Ciemas of Sukabumi.

The entire books in this program is a grant from the publisher of CV Arya Duta. The donated book category consists of elementary and secondary school textbooks, as well as books for PAUD children. Suci said, each district gets 5,000 to 7,000 books.

“We get book assistance from CV. Arya Duta is thanks to a network of the Indonesian Graphic Company Association (PPGI) in West Java,” Suci said when interviewed after the handover of the book grant held at Grha Kandaga Unpad, Jatinangor, Friday (8/3).

Books submissions ceremony was conducted by the Director of CV. Arya Duta Muhammad Taufik and Chairperson of PPGI West Java Dedy Firmansyah to the Chancellor of Unpad, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad which was also attended by Director of Unpad Academic and Library Resources Dr. Teuku Yan Waliana Muda Iskandarsyah, Dean of Faculty of Animal Husbandry Unpad Prof. Dr. Husmy Yurmiati, and Dean of FIB Unpad Yuyu Yohana Risagrniwa, Ph.D.

On that occasion the Chancellor explained, this book grant program was an effort by Unpad to improve the literacy of the people of West Java, especially in the southern region. This region has a prominent disparity compared to the northern region of West Java.

“One side of the development of literacy technology has been extraordinary. While other parts have the ability to access literacy is still not good, “said the Chancellor.

Push More

In particular, the Chancellor said that this kind of book grant program is one of the applications of social entrepreneurship (sociopreuneur). Hopefully, there will be many students involved in programs like this.

“More (expected) students will awaken their sociopreuneurship attitude. In the aspect of literacy and other aspects, it mainly builds village communities, “said the Chancellor.

As one of the strengths in West Java, the village sector must indeed be well built. The Chancellor said that increasing village literacy is very important. If it is associated with the program of one village one company, competent human resources need to be prepared.

“If the human capital is not strong, the knowledge is not strong, one day they will only become workers,” added the Chancellor.

The Chancellor also appreciated the book grant program initiated by this student. He advised that students can contribute to building scientific abilities in each region visited. *
