Student organizations in Unpad Faculty of Letters are divided to faculty level which accommodates all Unpad Faculty of Letters Students such as Students Consultative Assembly (MPM), Student Representatives Body (BPM), Student Executive Board (BEM), and organizations which can accommodate students based on their academic programs, commonly known as “Himpunan (Association)”.

Student Associations at Unpad Faculty of Letters:

1.    Gema Sastra
Association of Indonesian Literature Department named Gelanggang Mahasiswa Sastra Indonesia, commonly known as Gema Sastra. The founder of Gema Sastra was the late Kang Ade Kosmaya, an eccentric lecturer from Faculty of Letters who was also a writer in Bandung. Gema Sastra was established to accommodate and distribute student talent and interest in Indonesian literature, especially the ones related with extracurricular.

2.    Pamass
The Local Literature Department Students (Sunda) prefer not to use the work association on their organization. They prefer using the term “paguyuban/ community” than association. With the community, sense of kinship felt more, while other terms felt too formal and rigid.  So the organization named Sundanese Literature Students Community (Pamass), was first established on 16 September 1964.

3.    Himse
The students of Science Department formed their association on 4 December 1960, under the name History Students Association (Himse). Activists who founded Himse were A. Mansur Suryanegara, Makmun Salim, and Maryoto Trisuputra. The aims and objectives of Himse establishment was as an aspiration media for History Department students; become a communication media for the History Department big family, whether between students, between students with alumni, or students and alumni with lecturers; conduct student activities, especially related with History Department.

4.    Gemasi
English Literature Students formed Gemasi (English Literature Students Forum) in 1964. Among its founders were A. Prijo Utomo and Djuhaeri. In the 80’s, Gemasi often perform famous English dramas at Rumintang Siang Art Building. Too bad nowadays Gemasi doesn’t echo like it used to. Ask why?

5.    Himaper
French Literature Department Students formed French Literature Students Association (Himaper) in 1960. The founder was Budiman Saleh and his fellow friends in the same year. The objective of Himaper establishment was so students can create things in a student organization and interact with other students from other departments. Students can learn to socialize and learn to strive with other students, and teach them to unite in a medium, through the organization.

6.    Himade
Japanese Students Associations was named Himade, derived from Japanese words; hi means ‘sun’, made means ‘till’. So himade means ‘till the sun’ or ‘learn till Japan, country of the sun shine’. The founder of Himade was Itang Koernaedi and further developed in 1977 by activists who now have become lecturers, they are Nandang Rahmat and Maman Suratman. Himade was established to collect togetherness and kinship of members in order to complete each student lacking, allocate their hobbies, interest, and talents which cannot be accommodated by other associations. Himade Banzai!

7.    Himarus
Russian Literature Students Association (Himarus) was formed in 1977. Pioneered by Kang Ibing, Dadang Iskandar, Sully Zein, Bagio, and Asep Dayat legally and formally, though at that time the number of students was relatively little. They tried to stay exist, associating in active, communicative, and participative ways. In 1980, Himarus became more progressive and productive in student activities, supported by people like Upik Rapida and Susi Machdalena. Until now, Himarus still lives making realization and actualizing three obligations of higher education.

8.    Himasad
German Students Association (Himasad) was formed in 1972 to consolidate all academic civics from German Literature Department. Himasad is a medium for all German Literature Department students to do academic activities, applied from the science and knowledge in foreign language. Through Himasad, all German Literature Department students can hopefully allocate their ideas in form of student activities which has positive influence to the society and environments surrounding it.

9.    Himasa
Arabic Literature Students Association (Himasa) historically established as the Arabic Literature Department was opened in Unpad Faculty of Letters on 4 October 1964. Himasa is one of the student associations which gained achievements. On October 1988 in Yogyakarta, Himasa was appointed as motor and information center for national Arabic Literature students. On July 2000, Himasa successfully gathered Arabic literature students associations throughout Indonesia at the campus in Jatinangor and established Impabasasi, an Indonesian Arabic language and literature education students bond. On February 2002 the association succeeded its 2001/2002 work program, establishing Bandung Arabic language students bond (Imaba), which gathers three state universities in Bandung: Unpad, UPI, and IAIN Sunan Gunung Djati. (now UIN)

10.  Himasie
Himasie is the English Literature Extension Students Association (now regular evening classes). The association was formed on 23 March 2002, based on the idea that there has not been any medium for its students to create things. The purpose of the association was to allocate student aspirations in an organized activity, also to develop their organization skills. Himasie members are all students of English language academic program Regular Evening Classes in Unpad Faculty of Letters. Its secretariat is located at Faculty of Letters campus at Dago Pojok Street No. 23 Bandung.

11.  Kameja
Japanese Language Academic Program Students Association was formed through the meeting on 24 April 2002. In the meeting, it was agreed that their association will be named Kameja, short for Japanese Extension (Regular Evening Classes) Students Familiy. Kameja’s vision is to be a kinship forum in the students’ idea and creativity development. While its mission is to tighten students’ kinship like its vision, so it can help Unpad Faculty of Letters produce faithful, smart, independent, and cultured graduates.

12.  D-III Editing Students Association
Students from Editing Academic Program formed students association in 1992, named Editing Students Association. Kinship in the associations is so felt since so many of its alumni can work in the came companies and solidarity in the association maintained in their workplace.

13.  Himasid D-III
Students from English Academic Program formed students association in September 1987 named Himasid, which is the Diploma English Students Association. A couple of years after establishment, the association were famous for its comparative study to universities. When they had their comparative study to Universitas Nasional Jakarta, they were welcomed by the late Prof. Sutan Takdir Alisahbana where he gave a stadium general about how important a nation really means for a nation.

14.  Himade D-III
The Japanese Diploma3 Academic Program Students Association is also named Himade, derived from Japanese words hima meaning ‘time’ and de meaning ‘spare’. So Himade means the work done in spare times, the time when students gather to talk about things other than their routine in classes. Himade was formed in 1988 by Faturahman and friends. The objective of Himade establishment was to collect togetherness and kinship among Japanese D3 Students in ordr to complete learning process and allocate their interest and talent which cannot be accommodated by other associations.

15.  Kamapa D-III
Business Travel and Tourism Students formed their association in 1998 under the name Kamapa (Tourism Students Family). Despite being new, Kamapa members are famous in Unpad because every day they wear neat uniforms complete with tie. About tourism, they’re the expert. That’s why they have a work program to visit tourism destinations. Now after having the Garuda ticketing counter, they got even busy

The following are student organizations in Unpad Faculty of Letters dealing with interest, talent, and critical thinking:

1.    DKM Al-Muslih
DKM Al Muslih Faculty of Letters Unpad was formed on Wednesday, 19 September 1991. The vision of DKM Al Muslih is as medium for Moslem education and guidance among academic civics in Faculty of Letters Unpad. Meanwhile, its mission is to is to do activities based on its mission to help Faculty of Letters Unpad in producing graduates who are faithful, smart, independent, and cultured. DKM Al Muslih Activities: young activity reception, proposal project training, purchase project training, Islamic education mentoring, intensive Islamic study, Islamic basic study, social service, and so on.

2.    Bluehikers
Nature provides love since this width are full with beauty and the beauty shares love to all of us in universality. That’s the motto of Blue Hikers which was established on 30 September 1994. It began with the restlessness of Faculty of Letters students in looking for love. Blue Hikers has three divisions, outdoor which includes outdoor, forest, mountain, and wall climbing activities, and then art and culture division which includes theatre and literature, also photography division.

3.    Kemas
Literature Students Art (Kemas) Gentra Pakwan was formed on 13 March 1998 by Samson, Suwarman, and friends, as a medium for students who love Sundanese art. Their main attention is traditional dances like jaipongan and karawitan as supporting music. Other art branches are flute, rampak kendang, rampak jaipongan, degung, and Sundanese dangdut.
