Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Dentistry (Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi, or FKG) was established in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 85633/S on September 1, 1959 following a suggestion from the, then, Unpad Rector, Prof. Iwa Kusumasumantri, S.H. The formation was done to fulfill the goals of the Indonesian Dentist Association (PDGI) at the time, and it made FKG the first faculty of dentistry to stand separate from the faculty of medicine in Indonesia.

FKG applies student-centered learning methods to its teaching, utilizing a competence-based curriculum per the Standar Kompetensi Dokter Gigi Indonesia (Indonesian Dentist Standard of Competence). Said standard consists of 6 domains, namely professionalism, scientific mastery of medicine and dentistry, general physical and stomatognathic examinations, recovery of the stomatognathic system, communal dental and oral health, and management of dental practices.

The Faculty of Dentistry adopts the 7S (or Seven Smart) Prog ram which integrates the Three Pillars of Higher Education with the activities of FKG’s academics, staff, alumni, and the supporting facilities and technologies utilized. The 7S program itself is built on the values of Smart Governance, Smart Campus, Smart Research and Publication, Smart Lecturer and Employee, Smart Student, Smart Business, and Smart Alumni. The Faculty’s main goal is to be a leading education institution in dentistry specializing in the field of oral and maxillofacial health, supported by excellent human resources, and internationally competitive by 2025.
