Unpad Conducted Cooperation in the Development of Education Curriculum with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

[unpad.ac.id, 11/22/2018] Unpad is currently starting to develop academic cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), United States. The cooperation was carried out to answer the challenges facing the education system in the 4.0 industrial revolution.

Since September 2018, Unpad has been a member of the Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL) institution, an institution at MIT that initiated in developing the education system in the world. With the joining of Unpad in the J-WEL membership, there will be a number of collaborative activities carried out by both parties regarding the development of the education curriculum.

One of the activities carried out was the participation of two Unpad lecturers in a curriculum development workshop at MIT Boston. They were Ida Widianingsih, M.A., Ph.D. from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences representing the field of social sciences as well as Zahrotur Rusyda Hinduan, S.Psi., MOP, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Psychology representing the exact sciences.

“The development of the education system is very important to be done to answer various challenges in facing the 4.0 industrial revolution. “If the education system does not develop, graduates will find it difficult to compete in responding to the needs of the world today,” said Vice Rector for Governance, Planning and Information Systems Dr. Sigid Suseno, S.H., M.Hum. when contacted on Thursday (11/22).

In addition to curriculum development, Unpad collaboration with MIT is also strengthened by joint research activities related to the environment. One of them is by bringing the Director of the Environmental Solutions Initiative of MIT Prof. John E. Fernandez. Together with Unpad, Prof. John who is currently leading the “MIT Urban Metabolism” project will conduct an analysis study in the Citarum watershed.

On November 16, 2018, Prof. John gave a public lecture to Unpad academics entitled “Human, Cities, and Environment”. *
