Present in the event was the Commandant General Kopassus and the commander of the expedition, Major General TNI Agus Sutomo. He strongly encouraged the audience to take part in order to help maintain Indonesia’s wealth and sovereignty. “The purpose of this expedition is similar to the duties you all have to perform, i.e. learning, research, and community service.” Furthermore, he stated that the expedition should bring benefit for the society and collect accurate data on the condition of remote places in Indonesia.

“The previous two expeditions resulted in our finding new species or unidentified plants and animals. Last year we found 909 new species.”

Unpad realizes that such event is positive in so many aspects. According to the vice rector III, Setiawan, the expedition can get the student to be able to interact with community members and increase their awareness on their surrounding in addition to gaining new experience.

Bringing a theme “Preserving Nature in Order to Develop Sustainable Development for the Society’s Welfare,” the expedition focuses on three main events, namely exploration, research, and social communication from March 7 to June 30, 2013.
