Career Orientation for Unpad Young Lecturers

[Unpad.ac.id, 1/04/2013] Choosing to be a university teacher is a decision voluntarily made by an individual. It is not a regulation that he or she must comply. However, once he or she receives tenure from the university, there are rights and obligations that are attached to his/her permanent status. Sadly, there is tendency to put more emphasis the rights while simultaneously overlooking the obligations.

A lecturer, Unpad Rector argues, is not only to teach but also to conduct research and serve the community through numerous programs. His/her pieces of research, for example, should result in rewarding outputs that benefit the society and simultaneously help his/her future career development. “Research should not result in written report. It must provide meaningful output for the society at large,” said the rector. Planning, therefore, is necessary. A lecturer should plan ahead and make sufficient preparations before teaching, conducting research, and serving the community.

The career orientation workshop provides as many as 100 Unpad young lecturers with enough training to perform their duties and develop career. “Hopefully, this will create excellent lecturers that can give benefits to the university and society at large,” said Roni Kastaman, vice rector IV who is also the head of the organizing committee of the event.
