Attending Beef Cattle Industry Internship Program, A Student of Unpad Faculty of Animal Husbandry Meets the Australian Prime Minister

[Unpad.ac.id, 21/06/2013] Yudhishthira Pratama, a student of Unpad Faculty of Animal Husbandry, had the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard, at Australian Parliament House, Canberra. Besides Yudhishthira, there are also two other delegates who got to see Julia. They are Deti Inayatun (IPB Faculty of Animal Husbandry) and Yogi Sidik (UGM Faculty of Animal Husbandry).

At that time, Yudhishthira along with the other delegates was attending Study Apprentice Program 2013 in Northern Territory, Australia. The program initiated by the Cattle Buffalo Club (CBC) Unpad Faculty of Husbandry in cooperation with Indonesia Animal Science Association (ISPI) and the Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association (NTCA), is a place to share knowledge in the field of Beef Cattle Industry between Indonesia and Australia.

Unexpectedly, the program caught the attention of Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, during a meeting with the Executive Director of Northern Territory Cattleman’s Association, Luke Bowen, in Darwin Australia. Julia also expressed that she wanted to see  the students who attended the program. Three people were chosen as representatives. Yudhishthira, Deti, and Yogi were appointed to meet the foremost leader of the kangaroo continent.

Accompanied by the NTCA representative and the program mentor, Alward Foster, the delegates also received a special invitation card to look around the parliamentary courtroom. In addition, the delegation had the opportunity to watch the ongoing parliamentary session.

Julia also expressed her appreciation and recognition for the program that was pioneered by CBC. According to her, this program is good to foster the relation between Indonesia and Australia, particularly in the field of Animal Welfare. Furthermore, she strongly supports program to keep going in the future.

Besides meeting Julia, the delegates also got to see the Australian Trade Minister Craig Emerson, Australian Minister for Agriculture, Joe Ludwig, and Minister for Regional Services, Catherine King. They also met with the Ambassador of Indonesia to Australia, Nadjib Riphat Kesoema, who is also an alumnus of Unpad.

“Though it wasn’t very long, the meeting is surely very memorable for us,” said Yudhishthira expresseing his feelings. *
