Unpad FK Award 2013 for Prof. Fasli Jalal, dr. SpGK., Ph.D.

[Unpad.ac.id, 18/10/2013] For his excellent contribution to the development of medical education in Indonesia, particularly in the discipline that promotes mother-child health and nutrition, Prof. Fasli Jalal, dr. SpGK., Ph.D., was given the Anugerah Fakultas Kedokteran Unpad award last Friday at the Unpad Teaching Hospital (RSP), Jln. Eijkman 38 Bandung. Prof. Jalal also received outstanding appreciation for his consistent participation in the establishment of the teaching hospital. Upon receiving the award, Prof. Jalal gave a talk on the challenges that medical schools in Indonesia are facing, population control, the nation’s welfare, and the implementation of national health care (JKN).

Besides teaching at the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Unpad, Prof. Jalal also holds the position as the head of the National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN). He held several positions before this, namely the minister deputy of National Education and the Director General for Higher Education Republic of Indonesia.

His contribution is in accordance with the strategic plan that Faculty of Medicine (FK) Unpad has been having since 2012, that is to provide Research and Education Excellence for Society to Promote National Competitiveness.

FK Unpad has been giving similar awards to other outstanding figures for their contribution to health service, to name but a few Dr. Samlee Plianbanchang (Director of WHO-SEARO), Prof. Lokman Saim (Dean of Faculty of Medicine Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Prof. Koyama (Faculty of Medicine Gunma University Jepang), Prof. David Fairholm (Faculty of Medicine The University of British Columbia), and Prof. Andre Meheus (University Of Antwerpen Belgia) *
