[Unpad.ac.id, 20/11/2013] Unpad student community service (KKNM) period January-February 2014 will soon begin. Not only the students as participants who require a preparation, but also their field supervisors since they will become a role model for all students, which is why a field supervisor’s role, function, and duty are very important.

Therefore, Unpad Institute of Research and Public Services organized “Training of Trainer” (TOT): The role and function of a field supervisor in Integrated Student Community Service for period of January – February 2014, on Monday (11/19) and Wednesday (20/11) at Bale Sawala, Jatinangor.
The head of Unpad center of Student Community service research and development explained that the role of a field supervisor in the field determines the success of the program, which is why a field supervisor is abide by the rules of the program. “A field supervisor should understand their role as a representative of the university. It is important for them to work according to ethical rules and guidance of the university, for instance, the are required to participate in this workshop,” said Dr. Unang.
Besides performing their duty based on the ethical rules, a field supervisor must perform the mapping of the village. According to Ahmad Choibar, S.P., M.P., one of the speakers at the event in the field of social mapping, social mapping means gathering information as much as possible about the characteristics of a social community. In this regard, social mapping is performed on the area of the village which became the location of the program.
Ahmad further reveals, in conducting social mapping, the method commonly used is Particpatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method, in which the researcher analyzes all aspects regarding potential resources, history, life cycle, livelihoods, and social characteristics of the village. This analysis also becomes a reference for a field supervisor in designing the work programme,” added Ahmad.
At the event, Ahmad divided the participants into groups. Each group is responsible for conducting environmental mapping of campus Unpad Jatinangor in different point of view. Each group was given half an hour to do the mapping, then proceed with presenting the results of the mapping.

It consists of several presentations on student community service rules and guidance, social mapping and its simulation, field supervisor work mechanism, community service, program reporting mechanism, and how to make a blog on the website as described by DCISTEM.
