Students of FH Unpad Won First Place in Debate Competition Piala Mohammad Natsir in UII Yogyakarta

[Unpad.ac.id, 25/03/2016] Students of Faculty of Law Universitas Padjadjaran won first place at Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) Law Fair 2016 National Law Competition Piala Mohammad Natsir in FH UII Campus Yogyakarta, 19–21 March 2016. At the event, Unpad delegation won first place in debate competition and third place in Academic Essay Competition (LKTI).

The winner of debate competition was team of Dino Panji Pananjung, Ratu Durotun Nafisah, and Pandu Dewanata. Meanwhile LKTI winner was team of Naila Syifa, Muhammad Nur Ramadhan, and Nastiti Bidara. FH delegation has sent four teams to compete in the debate, LKTI, and legislative drafting session with theme of competition of “Creating Judicial Power with Dignity and Integrity.

In debate category, FH Unpad teams competed with 14 teams from various universities in Indonesia. After successfully winning preliminary round 3 times and once in semifinals, the team won on finals after facing the University of Diponegoro team.

In the finals, both teams debate centered on the jury system vote in Indonesian judiciary. Pandu said that Unpad team was on the counter-side of the motion. “In realilty, many have sided on the counter side of the motion. We also benefited from the fact that Undip team was still unclear of how to bring concept of the jury about,” said Pandu during interview with PR Unpad, Thursday (24/03).

With a month preparation, Pandu and the team have been preparing material for the competition. The total motions faced by the team during the entire debate was of 10 motions. In addition to research and collecting material, the team was also concentrating on verbal exercises.

“With winning first place in debate competition, we are bringing back the tradition of FH Unpad winning in this competition,” said the student who took the concentration of Constitutional Law.

At LKTI of LKTI, Universitas Padjadjaran team won third place with the title of “Creating Effective and Open Enforcement of Judges Through Judicial Ethics As Authority of the Judicial Commission”. According to Nur, the concept of this manuscript was inspired by the concept of the Honorary Board Implementation of Election (DKPP) from the law expert Prof. Jimly Asshiddiqie.

“We brought the concept to the realm of judicial power, since we in ICI have brought several judge violation cases, because the current situation is quite worrying,” said Nur.

After passing administrative test, Nur and teams’ LKTI paper was selected for presentation along with seven other teams in Indonesia. Finally, team won third place after team from University of North Sumatra (USU) at second place and University of Jember in the first place.

Delegation was led by Padjadjaran Law Research and Debate Society (Pleads). This winning was a proud achievement for Pandu, Nur, and other team members. Many of them has gained knowledge gained after participating in the competition.*
