“His project is a pioneer, presenting plant doll with moss media. The reason I choose moss media is because it could keep the humidity, also unique, “said Faldi at Unpad Public Relations Office, Rectorate Building 1st floor, Jatinangor, Monday (14/03).

The moss media does not become only planting media for ornamental plants, but also a “body” and “head” of the doll. With certain techniques and composition, moss is formed into a round shape, so that in addition of being a good planting medium, it is also an interesting sight.

“It becomes a creative game, a play with art, because it is difficult. We’ve held several workshops, it is rare to be able to make a round shape, “said Faldi.

With moss media, the plant will continue to grow and live. Even if the plant continues to grow, it can be transferred to other media. For moss dolls, he usually uses succulents and cacti. Faldi also often receives consumer requests wanting to make the dolls as souvenir for wedding or anniversary events.

Besides moss with succulent plants and cacti, ornamental plants such as orchids, poinsettia, and begonias could also be applied to a larger moss media ball. Typically, these plants are used for interior decoration in certain events.

According Faldi, the potential of ornamental plants in Indonesia is very high but has not been exploited optimally. He believes that ornamental plants that are seemingly “trivial” could be more valuable.

“In small pots, plants usually have a low economic value. As we innovate and create something creative, turning it into a doll, it would have higher economic value,” said Faldi.

Starting from Student Entrepreneurial Program activities in 2015, this business is also growing in parallel with the increasing market demand. Faldi was often asked to participate in a booth at the expo or become a guest speaker at a number of events related to this business. The positive reaction comes not only from within the country, but also from foreign countries. At least twice Faldi was invited to attend creative business events at the international level, even if he could not attend all of them.

Faldi said that in a month he could sell more than a thousand products. In addition to direct sales, sales are also done online. According to Faldi, his moss doll is not only targeting consumers at a certain age. Ranging from children to adults, many are interested in his moss doll. One marketing tool is an online booking through instagram.com/plantercraftbdg.

“Its maintenance is easy. Only once a week soaked in water 3 to 5 minutes for the dolls. It is very easy, especially for small children, “said Faldi.

To develop “Planter Craft”, today Faldi has been working with moss farmers in Lembang. According to him, in order to produce this product, not just any moss can be used. Faldi even required certain specifications for the moss farmers to develop.

Through his business, he also has won numerous achievements. Among the Third Place of Ministry of Cooperatives RI Cup (February 2016), Second Place Business Plan Competition Clinical Development Financing Universitas Padjadjaran (December 2015), and Second Place Business Model Competition Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Unpad.

Faldi’s victory becomes his own motivation to develop the business, as well as to continue to bring the good name of Universitas Padjadjaran. He also is in the process of applying Rights related intellectual wealth of this brand. *
