Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education: Pimnas Is Event To Seek Leading Student Innovation

[Unpad.ac.id, 9/08/2016] The 29th National Student Science Week (Pimnas) has been officially opened at Graha Widya Graduation Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Monday (8/08) night. The event was officially opened by the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Prof. M. Nasir, accompanied by Rector IPB Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc., Chairman of the 29th Pimnas Committee, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yonny Koesmaryono, MS., representative of the Governor of West Java, representative government and the City of Bogor Regency, as well as the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya as last year’s champions.

In his speech, Prof. Nasir said that Pimnas is an event to find the seeds of superior students who performed innovation through creative research-based program. “The competitions are expected to be innovation,” he said.

With superior products and innovative opportunity to enter the world of industry, he was committed for the ministry to provide financing, to support students to continue to innovate better.

According to him, innovation is one of the important matters in supporting the independence and competitiveness of the nation. Through Pimnas, Prof. Nasir advised for students to continue to innovate. “Let’s thrive innovation,” he said.

In Pimnas, Prof. Nasir hoped for students to continue flourished the spirit of unity of Indonesia. “With any identity, you are student of Indonesia,” he said.

The same sentiment was also stated by Rector of Bogor Agricultural Institute, Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc. He hoped Pimnas participants could enjoy the atmosphere of unity as the Indonesian students in this event. This is consistent with the theme of this year Pimnas, “With the Spirit of Unity, Indonesian Student Creating Creative and Innovative Work for the Glory of the Nation.”

Participating in the 29th Pimnas are 145 universities from all around Indonesia. Pimnas Participants have been divided into 22 classes covering 6 classes PKM of Research Exacta, 2 classes of PKM Social Humanities, 4 classes of PKM Entrepreneurship, 4 classes of PKM Community Service, 4 classes of PKM Self Innovation, a class of PKM in Application of Technology, and one class of PKM Written Ideas.

Besides competition of presentations and posters, Pimnas this year also held a variety of activities such as Pimnas Investment Summit, Social Gathering, Workshop Leader College Student Affairs, Workshop Head of Student Organization, Action Environmental Care, SMA goes to Pimnas, Joint Exercise, bazaar, and a city tour.
