Universities Should Also Pay Taxes To Increase Awareness

[Unpad.ac.id, 10/11/2016] Universities should be involved in promoting awareness of paying taxes in the community. This involvement must be one of the college’s commitments to contribute to the nation.

Rector Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad said, there are two aspects of the strength of universities in raising awareness of paying taxes. The two aspects, namely the power of knowledge and networking cooperation with third parties. It is proposed by Rector during the opening Socialization State Tax Amnesty and Tax Law Firm in Bale Sawala Jatinangor Unpad Campus, Thursday (10/11).

To the participants consisting of university leaders and faculty, Head of Section and Sub-Section Unpad Rector explained that it is not an optimal improvement of the tax led to the government’s budget always in deficit. Though the tax sector is the mainstay of the state budget financing.

“As a college that has the academic strength, especially now State University as Legal Entity, we should have a strong awareness to encourage this, starting from us,” said Rector.

The diversity of the scientific potential possessed allowed Unpad to conduct research related to taxes. According to the Rector, tax-related research has a greater scope in non-financial sector. “In addition to the financial sector, is greater in non-micro aspects; legal aspects, behavioral aspects, social aspects, to the cultural aspect. We must give assistance. Almost nothing in science we are not related,” he explained.

This contribution is expected to be a commitment also for other universities in an effort to increase state revenues from the taxation sector.

In addition, Unpad can also contribute by encouraging collaboration through networking. Currently, through the program Nyaah ka Jabar Padjadjaran, Unpad at least have networks of cooperation with 27 City/Regency in West Java. These two aspects are expected to build up the confidence to push the expansion of the spirit of paying taxes.

Furthermore, the Rector said that the success of the tax paying public capital is to accelerate development in Indonesia. He is optimistic that the public welfare will rise. If the income the greater the impact on the increase of infrastructure services, health services, to improve welfare.

“This is what we have to realize,” said Rector.

The event was also attended by Head Office of the Directorate General of Taxation (DGT) of West Java I, Drs. Yoyo Satiotomo, M.A., and his staff, the Head of the Tax Office Pratama (KPP) Sumedang Drs. Nana Sumarna Sumarna, M.Sc., and his staff. Socialization Tax Amnesty presented by Balimin of DGT Jabar I. Meanwhile socialization of the State Tax Law Firm conducted by a team of KPP Madya Bandung. *
