GenBI Unpad Encouraged Farmer of Desa Genteng To Become Entrepreneur

[Unpad.ac.id, 15/12/2016] Some scholarship recipients of Bank Indonesia who are members of the community of New Generation Indonesia (Genbi) Commissariat Universitas Padjadjaran, organized seminars and entrepreneurship training farm themed “Promoting Entrepreneurship and Farm Financial Management for Sustainable Mountain Development” in the Desa Genteng, District Sukasari, Sumedang District (11/12). The event coincided with the International Mountain Day 2016 set by the United Nations since 2003.

Seminar farming entrepreneurial is the kick-off of the 3-year International Mountain Day Project initiated by the Commissariat Genbi Universitas Padjadjaran. In Indonesia, the development program of rural communities in mountainous areas in the framework of the International Mountain Day is almost not there.

Speakers at this event were lecturer at the Faculty of Industrial Technology of Agriculture Unpad, Anas Bunyamin, S.T.P, M.Sc. On that occasion, Anas explained to the farming community in the Desa Genteng the forms of self-employment as an effort to improve the welfare of farmers. He also emphasized the importance of selecting the right commodities to be developed into products that have added value.

Anas also had a discussion with the public and provide motivation to start a business related to processed agricultural products. To society, Anas reminded that the primary capital to be held in the business is a strong interest and commitment. This is important because in the process, surely there will be a phase in which the spirit of declining even to the lowest point, especially when faced with challenges. Mental patient and tenacious entrepreneur must be built first and surely the result would not betray the process.

Desa Genteng Community responded positively on the convening of this activity. “We are grateful that Genbi Padjadjaran is willing to come to our village to share useful knowledge to the community here. We hope this event does not stop here. Hopefully there it goes so that people can actually practice the knowledge acquired to successfully make the effort of processed vegetable products alone,” said Jajang as Chairman of Farmers Group (Gapoktan) Desa Genteng.

Desa Genteng is a village located at the foot of Mount Manglayang. The village has an area of approximately 1300 ha which were mostly used as fields and rice paddies. Not surprising that more than 80% of this rural community livelihood as farmers.

In the next few years, Genbi Commissariat Unpad plans to hold other communities engaged in agriculture and social entrepreneurs to assist the villagers of tiles to be able to manage their own independent business. Senior community and mothers, as the Group of Women Farmers (KWT), will be directed to producers. Meanwhile the youths will be directed to go into the field of product marketing, aided by fellow students. *
