Infinity 2016 Displayed Many Potentials of People with Disability

[Unpad.ac.id, 20/12/2016] Many people looked down on persons with disability. In fact, as human beings, they have the right to move in the social sphere, and the right to show the various potentials. Government as protectors of the people continues to work for persons with disability to have the same rights by law in society.

Smile Motivator Foundation is a one of the non-profit organizations embracing and fostering the talents of persons with disability, to then encourage them to show their various potentials. Activities were focuses on the development of artistic talent.

Various potential is staged through the event “Infinity 2016: Ability Has No Limit” held a number of students Prodi class B Class of 2014 Public Relations Faculty of Communication Sciences Unpad at Graha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad, Jalan Dipati Ukur No. 35, Bandung, Tuesday (20/12) night.

Physical limitations did not deter the performer to show their totality on stage. A series of performances displayed, ranging from theatrical action, contemporary dance performances, fashion shows, stand-up comedy, performances of kaulinan barudak Sunda, exhibition of painting, and musical poetry.

Chief Executive of Infinty 2016, Rashif Qisthas Shafwatuddin, said that this event was held in commemoration of the International Disability Day, which falls every December 3rd. This activity is a form of campaign to remove the social stigma has been attached in the community of persons with disability.

“In this event they could show and expose their work to a lot of people that are expected to shift the negative perception in the community,” said Rashif.

In addition, this event also aims to help the government to socialize the Law No. 8 Year 2016 concerning persons with disabilities. “We fully support the bill, especially on the right to education and employment,” said Rashif.

Also present were Dean of Faculty of Communication Sciences Unpad, Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat, SH, S. Sos., M.Si, as well as the Manager of Student Learning Faculty of Communication Sciences Unpad, Agus Setiaman, S. Sos., M.I.Kom.

In line with Rashif, Head of Curriculum and Student Affairs Section of the Provincial Education Department PKPLK Jabar, Dra. Hj. Ester Miory Dewayani, M.M.Pd., said this activity is able to accommodate the basic rights of persons with disabilities in the enjoyment of education and interaction in social life. She stated that it is not the time to set aside people with disability in society.

Therefore, she expected Unpad to further facilitate persons with disabilities. “Unpad are expected to open up opportunities for persons with disabilities to be enrolled in accordance with its potential,” said Esther.

Meanwhile, Agus Setiaman said that the activities initiated by the student is an implementation of the final project of Event Public Relations course in Study Program Public Relations taught by Lilian Puspitasari, S. Sos., M.I.Kom. By convening this activity, students have been able to realize the concept of transformative learning are applied Unpad. *
