With Research on Political Ecology on Water Scarcity, Supriady RP Siregar Participated in International Competition in Hamburg Germany

[Unpad.ac.id, 19/12/2016] Student of Faculty of Agriculture Unpad, Supriady R.P Siregar, has successfully participated in the 18th International Competition on Recent Innovations and Potential Applications in Hamburg, Germany on 28-31 October 2016. He became one of 50 contestants from several countries in the world who had the opportunity to perform at the prestigious event.

Supriady berhasil mengikuti kegiatan tersebut setelah mengikuti tahap seleksi dari puluhan negara calon peserta. Dia mempresentasikan proyek ilmiahnya yang berjudul, “Political Ecology Perspective and Water Integration Treatment System With Nano Filter Technology as Solution of Fresh Water for the Future.”

Supriady managed to follow the event after following the selection phase of dozens of candidate countries. He presented scientific project entitled, “Political Ecology Perspective and Water Treatment System Integration With Nano Filter Technology as Solution of Fresh Water for the Future.”

Supriady said that the study was based on the turmoil currently occurring, that is “water scarcity in abundance”. According to him, the current scarcity of water was influenced by political ecology for political influence water agencies at the local, national and global. This can happen as the wrong decision of the stakeholders who in fact led to the commodification of water have become items can make money.

He also added that in Indonesia there are many institutions that share roles and responsibilities for water allocation and utilization. Each agency has its own ambitions. For example, the agency requires water to irrigate agricultural crops and fields. Meanwhile, environmental agency focused on water conservation and providing environmental permit for the private sector that want to exploit of any of the water. Agency for mining and mineral resources on the other hand has authority over the technical permit.

“The existence of capital and investment, regional head only approved all documents. Finally, the authorities and roles spread across many parties, but no substantial effort for coordination, integration essentially no good, “said Supriady.

supriady-hamburg2He conducted scientific projects due to seeing that in essence there is no good management and high rates of water scarcity in almost every region in Indonesia when rainfall in Indonesia is quite high, about 2000-4000 mm per year.

“That is actually a blessing, but for us it becomes a problem as the water crisis in some areas,” said student of Agrotechnology class of 2013.

Water resources in some areas have been used as goods that produced money and enjoyed by most people. The condition at this time is that not all regions in Indonesia have water companies themselves.

“Now with my research and tools it will be able to meet water needs population in each region,” said Ady.

Currently, the works he created is still a prototype and will continue to be improved in order to be realized. Ady mentioned a tool that can be applied to meet the drinking water needs of the rural community. The tool working system, namely water (from rain or household waste) is accommodated in the polder water tanks in every home for polder water then flows into a large tank that will exist in every residential or village. The water will then undergo a screening process in the collector tank and the nano-filter technology so that water can be free from a number of harmful particles and bacteria. Besides being able to meet the water needs of society, the tool can also minimize stagnant water. *
