Rector of Universitas Padjadjaran Officially Inaugurates 1,792 Graduates

[Unpad.ac.id, 03/05/2017] The Rector of Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad inaugurated 1,792 graduates at the Graduation Ceremony of  Phase III Academic Year of 2016/2017 at Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata campus Iwa Koesoemasoemantri Unpad, Jalan Dipati Ukur No. 35, Bandung, May 3rd – 4th 2017. Inaugurated graduates are from Doctoral Program, Master, Specialist, Profession, Bachelor, and Diploma.

In his speech, the Rector presented several aims of university development policy in the future. Quoting the speech of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education at the National Education Day ceremony on Tuesday (02/05) yesterday, the Rector said the Higher Education Tridharma activity is expected to provide significant benefits to economic development. Based on the report of The Global Competitiveness Report 2016/2017, Indonesia Competitiveness Index is ranked 41st of 138 countries in the world. This indicates, Indonesia’s competitiveness is still far below Singapore (ranked 2nd), Malaysia (25th), and Thailand (ranked 34th).

The Rector said the universities should at least function 3 of the 12 pillars assessing the nation’s competitiveness index as established by the World Economic Forum since 2005. The three pillars are higher education and training, technological readiness, and innovation. “One of the key elements of competitiveness is creating an environment that encourages innovation, which in turn will be linked to openness and economic integration,” said Rector. One of Unpad’s important programs in supporting innovation development which improve the facilities and the volume of research activities. Overall, Unpad’s research activities have absorbed a budget of approximately 123 Billion Rupiah sourced from the University’s Internal Grants, Competitive Grants fund from Dikti, and international competitive research funds. This research activity is carried out by almost all lecturers and involves students in various levels. The targets to be achieved are in the form of scientific publications, patents, and downstream of research products.”The increase in the number of scientific publications is one important indicator in supporting the competitiveness of higher education globally,” he said.

 

Unpad Graduates the First Class of Primary Service Doctor

In this graduation ceremony, Unpad graduated 43 graduates of Doctor of  Primary Services from the first generation. This graduate is also the first generation of Primary Service Doctors in Indonesia. It also informs that one of graduates named Tom Surjadi received the title of the oldest graduates in the age of 68 years 4 months 5 days.Program Study of Primary Service Doctor held in Faculty of Medicine Unpad was first opened in 2016. The implementation of this study program is mandated by Constitution Number 20 Year 2013 on Medical Education which is a continuation of the Doctor Profession program and internship program equivalent to Specialist Doctor’s program. “The program integrates family medical science and skills, community medicine, and public health, enabling graduates to organize and lead primary-level healthcare services,” said the Rector.

In particular, the Rector congratulates graduates with the best honors, specifically Saskia Lenggogeni Nasroen from the Doctoral Program of Medicine who successfully conducted 3 scientific publications in two international journals, namely International Journal of ChemTech Research and Cellular and Molecular Biology. Saskia has successfully completed her PhD in under 2 years with a grade point average of 3.97.   Furthermore, the award was given to Nurkhalifa Fajrini from Communication Master Program, Ida Bagus Nyoman Dhedy from Program Periodontic Specialist, Annisa Eka Fitirani from Pharmacist Study Program, Diantiny Mariam Pribadi from Mathematics Program, and Lestiana Kusuma Wardani from Diploma of Administration Program.The award was also given to Cynthia Gracesella Hutami Patintingan from Undergraduate Pharmacy Program as the youngest graduate in the age of 19 years 9 months 28 days. *
