[unpad.ac.id, 14/08/2017] Several people in Muara Gembong District, Bekasi Regency, are enthusiastic to follow community services provided by Universitas Padjadjaran, Monday (14/08). Supercamp Unpad 2017 is the implementation of University Tridharma.

Series of Supercamp Unpad 2017 event was held in 6 villages located in Muara Gembong District, such as Desa Pantai Bahagia, Desa Pantai Sederhana, Desa Pantai Mekar, Desa Pantai Harapan Jaya, Desa Jayasakti, and Desa Pantai Bakti, from Sunday (13/08) to Wednesday (15/08). In each village, residents were involved in various research activities as well as community services provided by lecturers and students from every scientific program in Unpad.

In Desa Pantai Bakti, for example, lecturers and students of Faculty of Medicine held scale weight and observed early detection of neurodevelopmental disorder in infants. Besides that, mothers and children were informed the potential hazards of autoimmune disease “Lupus” and back pain in children. Muara Gembong District Community Health was where Supercamp event took place. The team also held mass circumcision, there. Residents’ enthusiasm were marked by the amount of children signing up for the event.

There were other activities, as well, in the given Community Health. They included antenatal care with USG method and IVA test, and refractive disorder examination in elementary school students, cooperated by Cicendo Eye Hospital Bandung.

Community services provided by team from Faculty of Dentistry consisted of dental examination in two elementary school at Desa Pantai Harapan Jaya. The service was successfully followed by 547 students. FKG Team themselves sent 110 staffs consisting of principals, lecturers, students, and educators.

In other scientific subject, Supercamp team from Faculty of Geological Engineering conducted socialization and counseling related to waste management and geological disaster mitigation. The counseling was held in Desa Bahagia, targeted to elementary students and junior high school students.

Besides FTG team, FMIPA team also gave counseling related to environmental health and water quality standards, mobile device training to strengthen health programs, and water rocket competition for students.

In Desa Pantai Mekar, residents were introduced to tea bag products resulted from presented research by four lecturers of Faculty of Pharmacy Unpad. The products were processed from pidada leaves and fruits, which is considered to be a kind of mangrove plant located in most of Muara Gembong area. Based on this research, pidada leaves and fruits are rich in natural antioxidants, able to prevent degenerative illness (cancer, heartache, and stroke), and even to improve body immune.

As a coastal area, Muara Gembong is highly prone to sea water abrasion. Therefore, several lecturers and student symbolically planted mangrove trees in Pantai Beting of Desa Pantai Bahagia. The program was marked as initial program of 15.000 mangrove trees implantation in Pantai Beting. The program was the result of Unpad cooperation with West Java Provincial Government, and Bekasi Regency Government.

Prior to the event, Supercamp team from social sciences programs had conducted several community services in Muara Gembong, Sunday (13/08). In Desa Pantai Bahagia, civitas academica of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences mapped tourism development potential area, entrepreneurship, and residents’ participation in government level. Tourism development program were also supported by team of Faculty of Communication Unpad by conducting training related to tourism promotional tools.

Meanwhile, team of Faculty of Cultural Sciences held observation towards impact and adaptation pattern of Desa Pantai Bahagia residents due to great flood. FIB team also introduced foreign language and culture to elementary school students.

Siti (26), resident of Desa Pantai Mekar admitted that she was satisfied with Unpad Supercamp event. Research activities and community services were proved to help residents’ daily life, particularly in fulfilling residents’ needs.

Similar things was also expressed by Camat Muara Gembong Fahrurrozi. Research activities and community services in Muara Gembong are expected to improve public welfare, particularly in health care accessibility and tourism potential improvement. In terms of health care, although Muara Gembong already had three subsidiary Community Health, until now there is almost no doctor serves in the given district. Remote distance between village and road with poor condition become residents’ limitation to access health care.

Rector of Universitas Padjadajran Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, said, Supercamp event was Unpad’s attempt to present in society and to provide better contribution for development. “Academic development will get stronger, only if we are able to contribute directly,” he said.

Through this event, academics had witnessed real problems available in society. As an academics, solving community issues cannot be done based on theories only. They need to directly involve with the community, in order to create useful solution for them.

It was admitted by Rector that Muara Gembong area was a tough one. This northernmost area of West Java have a lot of limitation, specifically in infrastructure and human resources terms. “The event encouraged our spirit to contribute more,” said Rector.

Unpad activities in Muara Gembong are also expected to continue. The intention will be marked by the establishment of Bumi Walagri Padjadjaran in Muara Gembong. The facility will become Unpad vehicle to improve research activities and community services in Muara Gembong.

Supercamp is Unpad annual event that had been held for 6 times. Unlike five previous locations which were mostly located in West Java Southern Coastal Area, this time, Supercamp targeted West Java Northern Coastal Area. After Muara Gembong, the event will continue to Karawang, Subang, until Indramayu.

The event was officially closed by signing mangrove implantation inscription by Rector and Vice Regent of Bekasi Eko Supria Atmaja in Muara Gembong District Office yard, Tuesday (15/08). Besides that, Unpad also gave one unit of threshing machine which was developed by Faculty of Agricultural Industrial Technology Unpad. The closing coincided with Bekasi 67th Anniversary.
