Summit of 60th Anniversary Celebration, Rector of Universitas Padjadjaran Delivers Reflection on Unpad Journey

The educational process conducted by Unpad is a mandate from the predecessors to open the opportunity for the society to get a higher education.

Rector of Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, in his scientific oration, conveyed, an important milestone that has been passed by Unpad today is the transformation of management into Corporate University (PTNBH) which has the authority of academic and non-academic management. The change of the status is officially contained in Government Regulation (PP) No. 80 of 2014 and Government Regulation No. 51 of 2015.

The scientific oration was presented by the Rector during the Unpad’s 60th Anniversary Celebration in Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad, Jalan Dipati Ukur No. 35, Bandung, Monday (11/09). This anniversary is specifically attended by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Ir. H. Joko Widodo, a number of cabinet ministers, regional leaders, several university rectors, top-administrative staff of Unpad, professors, civitas academica of Unpad and many other honorable guests.

Related to the transformation of the status of Corporate University, the Rector presents a reflection that becomes the important cavity of Unpad governance. The Basic Scientific Pattern  (PIP) of “Bina Mulia Hukum dan Lingkungan Hidup dalam Pembangunan Nasional” is a reflection of Unpad which is still relevant in facing the challenge of global change.

“The concept of PIP as a crystallization of the thoughts, experiences, and expectations about Unpad’s  excellent identity, which is guided through academic leadership by Prof. Mochtar Koesoemaatmadja, Prof. Otto Soemarwoto, and Prof. Didi Atmadilaga , “said Rector.

The Rector mentioned, this idea is in line with the concept of Insight Archipelago which is also a reflection of thought and efforts from Prof. Mochtar Koesoemaatmadja in maintaining the limits of the sovereignty of NKRI. This concept was finally recognized by the international constitution as the boundary of the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

Another important notion of PIP Unpad is the role of ecology in development. This concept is able to inspire academic world to take an active role in the effort to achieve  sustainable development.

“One of the real form of PIP  of Unpad spirit is realized on UNESCO Global Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu submission process in South Sukabumi,” said Rector.

From institutional university, Unpad also transform institutional management, such as by reforming the bureaucracy into downsizing structure of organization and transferring its function.Unpad has now removed its structural position and transformed it into a certain functional position. With the support of bureaucracy reform, Unpad is able to encourage the improvement of academic outcome performance.

While from the academic hand, Unpad is at least a university with the highest number of applicants in Indonesia through SNMPTN for the last 6 years. Only about 6% of registrants who pass the enrollment in Unpad.

The high number of registrants continues to encourage Unpad to improve learning and research performance. Rector really appreciates the academic outcomes produces by lecturers and students. Based on data as in September 2017, 291scientific articles from Unpad lecturers have been published in reputable international journals.

“The amount exceeds the number of similar publications recorded at the end of 2016, which is 244 articles,” said Rector.

Furthermore, the Rector also conveys several Unpad excellent programs, including Strategic Alliances of Padjadjaran University – West Java (ASUP Jabar), Professors go to the village program (Professor Masuk Desa), Doctor and Specialist Doctor’s waiver program in order to meet the needs of doctors and specialist doctors in some region in West Java.

“Through the ideas of the alma mater and its implementation, we dedicate to sustainable development in order to realize the ideals of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Rector.

In the summit of the celebration, Unpad launched the book “Menyongsong SDGs: Kesiapan Daerah-Daerah di Indonesia “. The book is officially submitted by Professor of Faculty of Economics and Business Unpad Prof. Armida Salsiah Alisyahbana, Ph.D, to President Joko Widodo. In addition, Unpad also held held an exhibition of Unpad Travel and Development Photos and Photo Exhibition of Infrastructure Development outside Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata. The exhibition happened based on good collaboration between Unpad and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Committee for the Acceleration of Provision of Priority Infrastructure (KPPIP). *
