Unpad is ranked 9th in the first cluster university group. This result increased five ranks from the previous year, which was 14th.

Kemenristekdikti’s clustering is an effort to map national universities under the auspices of the Ministry. This mapping aims to improve the quality of higher education in a sustainable manner in carrying out the Tridarma (Three Benevolence) of Higher Education.

The clustering process was carried out through the assessment of five components of the data in the Kemenristekdikti and other relevant data, including: quality of human resources, quality of institutions, quality of student activities, quality of research and community service, and quality of innovation.

Indicators of research and community service were indicators with the largest percentage of assessment, which is 30%. Furthermore institutional indicators (28%), HR (25%), student affairs (12%), and innovation (5%). Based on the results of the assessment, Unpad scored a total of 2.95, and was ranked 9th among 14 universities in the first cluster. In 2017, Unpad achieved a total score of 2.72.

Unpad achievements for Indonesia

The announcement of this clustering coincided with the commemoration of the 73rd anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia. In this momentum, Unpad reflected achievements that have been achieved in its performance in the past year.

In line with the efforts of Kemenristekdikti, Unpad is fully committed to strengthening research and community service activities. Various researches have been drained into products that are able to answer various challenges in society.

Unpad actively contributed to regional development. In recent years, it has been active in conducting research and community service in the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Geopark area which resulted of UNESCO designated the region as a UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG) in April 2018. This  region is the only geopark proposal involving universities in its development.

Research optimization was also strongly encouraged by Unpad. This can be seen from increasing number of international publications indexed by Scopus. Unpad has been successful to encourage both academics and education supporting personnels to conduct research through the provision of internal university grants.

An integrated aspect of research with community service

For this reason, the implementation of Students Community Engagement (KKN) is integrated with the implementation of Lecturers Community Engagement (PPM) program grants. Thus, it is expected that there will be research outputs implemented in the community.

From an institutional perspective, Unpad ranked in the range of 651-700 in the QS World University Rangkings 2019 version that was conducted to 1,233 universities in the world. Unpad Rector Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad said, this achievement showed recognition of Unpad performance. The assessment indicators were seen from academic reputation, staff reputation, number of citations per faculty, quality of students, faculty internationalization, and number of foreign students.

Responding to the challenge of equal access to higher education, Unpad has developed the Study Program Outside the Main Campus (PSDKU) in two regions in West Java Province, namely Pangandaran and Garut Regencies. PSDKU in Garut Regency has produced graduates who are expected to be able to answer various challenges in the community.

Unpad is also committed to supporting the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia by establishing the SDGs Center which is expected to play an optimal role on achieving sustainable development agenda by 2030.

One research conducted in the Center was analyzing the readiness of the Provinces in implementing SDGs. The results of this study is as a reference in policy making of local governments and other related parties.
