Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Geological Engineering (Fakultas Teknik Geologi, or FTG) was first established in 1959 as the Department of Geology, operating under the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences (FIPPA). The Department officially began its operations on November 17, 1959 under the leadership of its two main founders, Major General Prof. Dr. Moestopo and Drs. M. Koesmono. On December 12, 2007, the Department, which had developed into the Department of Geological Engineering, separated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences to stand alone as the Faculty of Geological Engineering.

The Faculty strives to produce reliable and professional geologists who excel and are capable to compete at national and international levels, specializing in the fields of energy and mineral exploration, geological engineering, and many more. The Faculty seeks to push exemplary research to be published nationally and internationally by prioritizing studies conducted by both professors and students. The results of which are expected to be useful to society. The Faculty of Geological Engineering has become the main information center for geology, especially around West Java and Banten. Thus, the Faculty runs its programs by focusing a few aspects of its graduates. These range from expertise, published works, balance between learning and research, as well as community service.

Unpad’s Faculty of Geological Engineering upholds its vision to become an international quality institution of Geological Engineering education. FTG Unpad also aims to benefit society greatly, for West Java, Indonesia, and the world.
