[Unpad.ac.id, 10/01/2013] Starting 2013, Unpad is to organize an affirmative action through “Unpad Nyaah ka Jabar” (Unpad Cares for West Java Province), which enables high school graduates to pursue higher education in Unpad. This program allows each city or regency to send at least 84 student candidates, which means Unpad will admit 2184 West Java residents to study in this university through such program.
“The number is minimal. Hopefully it will increase 60 to 70% in the following years. For your information, this program is in accordance to the purpose of Unpad since its establishment in 1957, that is to give more opportunities to West Java residents to pursue higher education,” said he when giving the presentation on the program before the West Java government officials in the Unpad Executive Lounge on Thursday (10/01).
“Unpad Nyaah ka Jabar” is a specially-designed program for West Java residents. This positive affirmative action will enable high school graduates in this province to go for schooling in Unpad. All applicants will only compete with other applicants regionally, instead of nationally,” he added.
In addition, as many as 900 students will be selected to be endowed scholarship from Bidik Misi program, the Ministry of Culture and Education Republic of Indonesia. They will receive monthly allowance in the amount of Rp. 600,000.
“I’m so grateful that Unpad organizes such program, which I think should also be conducted by other universities in this province,” said the Governor of West Java, Ahmad Heryawan. Similarly, the chair of provincial house of representative, Uu Rukmana, said that the program should be fully supported.
In the same occasion, the provincial government of West Java, BNI and BJB entrust Unpad with scholarship grants for Unpad students in the amount of Rp 1,630,740,000,00, Rp 1,000,000,000 and Rp 500,000.000 respectively.*
