[Unpad.ac.id, 12/02/2013] Unpad is now collaborating with Google in developing information system that will enable a much more effective learning in the university.

“We have made great investments in software and hardware development. This time let’s welcome Google to take part in helping us develop our information system,” said the vice rector III, Dr. med. Setiawan, dr., when opening the Kick Off Meeting with Google in the Executive Lounge Unpad Campus in Jatinangor on Monday (11/02).
Unpad is organizing a partnership program with Google to develop information system program that Unpad now runs and collaborate it with Google system, Google Apps. One product to be made use of is Google Drive. Google Drive is a free service that lets you store data and share them with other users effectively. It can be accessed anytime anywhere. “We are now still making detailed observation on the benefit of Google Drive. How can this be optimally used,” said the head of DCISTEM Unpad, Eddy Nurmanto.
In the future, Unpad webmail, now only accessible via http://zimbra.unpad.ac.id/, can be accessed through Google. Even though using different domains, webmail users will still be able to use the domain @mail.unpad.ac.id.
According to Indonesian Education Lead for Google Southeast Asia, Pepita Gunawan, Google has so many applications that can be accessed and used by Unpad. Google Hangout, for example, enables the students to make a teleconference with 10 of their friends. “The students do not have to convene in person.”
Unpad is also developing a social media “Unpad Riung” Riung” http://riung.unpad.ac.id/ by which faculties and staff as well as students can communicate. Google Hangout is to be collaborated with Unpad Riung.
