Vegetable Garden outside the Rectorate Building in Jatinangor

[Unpad.ac.id, 26/02/2013] Unpad campus is made greener as vegetable garden, a flea market selling fresh fruits and vegetables, is present today outside the Unpad rectorate building.

“The idea comes from the rector who wanted to empower the campus cleaning service workers and get them to earn more,” said Ranu Manggala Putra, from the Faculty of Agriculture. The vegetables are planted and harvested by the workers themselves during their free time.

Since no pesticides are involved during the cultivation, the vegetables have good quality and lower price if compared to those sold in many supermarkets.

The head of Community Service and Research Center (LPPM) Unpad, Prof. Wawan Hermawan, MS., claimed that LPPM Unpad helped organize the event as a service for the community. It is planned to be held regularly. In addition, according to Yatty Ganjar Kurnia, the head of Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) Unpad, the flea market is going to be developed and set as an example for community groups that the DWP organizes as a token of appreciation for the society at large.
