Out of five competitions, namely Writing, Story Telling, Newscasting, Speech and Debating, three Gemasi delegates, Nadira Dhaifina, Sharon Patricia Kandou, and Nikko Kurniawan Hermawan, won the first places in three different contests, namely Writing Competition, Story Telling, and Newscasting Competition, respectively. “This is my very first time. And I am so excited at winning in the competition,” said Kandou, when interviewed in the Unpad Public Relation office in Jatinangor on Wednesday (10/04).
Kandou mesmerized both the audience and adjudicators through her breathtaking story about Christina Martha Tiahahu. As for Dhaifina, she won the competition after presenting her writing on the difficulties the Indonesia faces in eradicating corruption due its maddening prevalence among society members.
According to Ridwan Nurjaman, the chairperson of Gemasi, their objective was more than winning the competition. Gemasi aimed higher—trying to broaden and strengthen network among English department students nationwide. “We were not nervous at all because we put more emphasis on broadening our network. Yet, we had our optimism, and won,” said he.
