Unpad signs MoU and LoI with four universities in Asia

[Unpad.ac.id, 4/11/2013] To extend cooperation with many universities, particularly in Asean and Asia in general, Unpad signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Letter of Intent (LoI) with four universities from four different countries which included Yangon Technological University Myanmar, IIC University of Technology Cambodia, University of Electronic Science and Technology China, and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia. The signing for partnership was conducted in the event International University Partnerships Workshop on Monday-Thursday (28-31/10) in Yangon, Myanmar.

   

 

In the event organized by SEAMEO Seamolec Jakarta in cooperation by Ministry of Science and Technology Myanmar, Unpad was represented by Vice Rector of Research, Community Service, and Partnership, Dr. med. Setiawan and Secretary of Partnership Unit, Kasno Pamungkas, M. Hum.

The cooperation includes a number of fields. In technology, Unpad would develop partnership in Information Technology and Geology, particularly in disaster mitigation, environmental management, business administration, and Islamic economy. The form of partnership would focus on the development of in-bound student program, especially for postgraduate program through Developing Countries Partnership scholarship. In addition, researches would be funded with International Partnership Grant and Publication scheme. Meanwhile, the mobility of students and lecturers would be encouraged with student affairs fund and SAME program.

In the release, it is mentioned that the new partnership would involve two additional countries, Myanmar and Cambodia, which is expected to realize in order to improve Unpad’s role in Asean region to Asean Community 2015.

The event invited 27 educational institutions from six countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, and China. Every participant presented their institution’s profile to foresee the potential of the partnership.

It was also concluded that Joint Committee Asean Plus was established represented by six universities from Myanmar and representatives from each country, and Unpad was one of them. The committee would design focus for partnership, which was agreed to be in TI, as proposed by Unpad, for the first year. In 2014, the evaluation for the effectiveness of the cooperation and development would be held in the same event in the Philippines, with SEAMEO Seamolec as the focal point of the cooperation. It is expected that the partnership would be conducted and developed immediately in related faculties.
