[Unpad.ac.id, 16/12/2013] The local government of Bandung has the initiative to make the city as the world book capital, a concept developed by UNESCO in recognition of the quality of a city’s prgams to promote books and reading and dedication of all players in the book, including universities.

“Unpad plays a great role in making this happen. We see this as a challenge that we must take,” said Unpad vice rector, Dr.med. Setiawan, dr., when opening Pesta Buku Diskon 2013, on Monday (16/12) at Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad Bandung.
One way leading to its implementation is Pesta Buku Diskon 2013, in which Unpad together with Indonesian Publisher Association (IKAPI) of West Java region organizes a book fair involving 55 publishing companies from West Java, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Central Java and East Java. Reading interest is encouraged through events as such. In addition, Unpad has been revitalizing the libraries across West Java province through book donations.
Unpad also plans to invite reading community and librarians to actually take part in coming book fairs for they are fully committed to promoting books and reading interest of the people.
Responding to this, Rosidayanti Rosalina from IKAPI expressed her appreciation that Unpad organized the national-level book fair which, according to her, would boost not only reading interest but also research publication.
The Pesta Buku Diskon 2013 starts on December 16 to December 20, 2013 at Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata, Unpad campus in Bandung. In addition to the fair, discussion, seminar, information dissemination on SNMPTN 2014, and arts performances are also organized.
