[Unpad.ac.id, 28/12/2015] In 2015, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran, has successfully obtained 10 Certificates of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of Copyright. IPR handing ceremony has been done mid December 2015 at Auditorium, 2nd Floor RSP Building Unpad. Jl. Prof Eijkman No. 38 Bandung.
Director of Education Unpad, Prof. Dr. Budi Setiabudiawan, dr., Spa K., M. Kes. revealed that in the faculty, there is a unit of Scientific Publication and Intellectual Property Rights that had helped facilitating lecturers of FK for submitting IPR request, writing scientific journals, and compiling textbooks.
For IPR submission, the unit accompanied each stage of the application process, including stage of submission to Unpad and national level. After the file submission, the IPR applicants must first present their work in for the unit, in the presence of experts who are experts in their field of work.
“In our faculty, if there’s a staff who wants submit IPR for their works, it is very easy. He only needs present his draft to the unit, and it will be taken care of. From the beginning to Unpad stage, being sent to Jakarta, ending with its IPR certificates, “explained Prof. Budi, who currently also serves as Chairman of the Scientific Publication and Intellectual Property Unit of the faculty.
Not only just waiting for submission, this unit also makes the first approach. If there is an interesting and suitable staff research for the proposed IPR, the unit will be directly contacted.
Prof. Budi expected that every department in Unpad could make active efforts like what was done in the faculty. “Each department and each faculty would have known better which of the staffs who have work for IPR copyrights,” he said.
In addition as effort to assist students in writing a scientific journal process, the unit also provides training for scientific journal writing in English for students, especially for undergraduate students. The faculty itself currently has four scientific journals that are indexed internationally, namely Medical Magazine Bandung (Majalah Kedokteran Bandung), IJIHS, Althea Medical Journal, Journal of Anesthesia and Perioperative. Medical Magazine Bandungand the Journal of Anesthesia Perioperative have been nationally accredited. These journals could contribute to facilitate students of the levels of bachelor to doctoral to publish the results of their work.
“Students are required to submit his research to the journal, and we also facilitated the journal. Students must also be equipped with know-how to write scientific articles that can be submitted into an academic journal, as part of their thesis outcome, “said Prof. Budi.
The training was conducted within 3 days, a workshop writing. Training was conducted until the students are able to produce decent article to be published in scientific journals. “Therefore students would have that was to be later student, his output that he has produced scientific articles that are ready to go into the journal,” said Prof. Budi.
Re textbooks, this unit also facilitated the manufacturing process. Starting from the process of writing, editing, cover design, up until publication. This unit also had a good network with a number of renowned publishers.
“This unit is currently working on a book on how to write scientific articles,” said Prof. Budi.
Prof. Budi also hoped that every faculty could perform better management of the scientific publications and IPR to improve the accreditation. Additionally, for the lecturers, the advantages will also be obtained, especially in process of their promotion. “There are many advantages if we could manage scientific publications and IPR unit,” he said.
