Student of Faculty of Agriculture Unpad Represented Indonesia in FAO Asia Pacific Regional Conference

[Unpad.ac.id, 22/03/2016] Student of Faculty of Agriculture Unpad, Anggita Kharisma became one of the two Indonesian students who participated in the Food and Agricultural Organizations of the United Nations Regional Conferences for Asia and the Pacific region in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on 7-11 March.

Anggita was selected along with Anjela Putri from Gadjah Mada University through rigorous selection process done by International of Agricultural Student Associations, the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS).

The conference covered a biennial meeting of the FAO member countries in the Asia Pacific region. In this event, also participating were representatives from 44 FAO member countries in the Asia-Pacific Regional, observer of the first FAO member countries, eight international non-governmental organizations, and 34 cross-governmental organizations.

The conference agenda included two Senior Officers Meeting and Ministerial-level Meeting. The opening of the conference was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, HE Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, accompanied by remarks from the Director-General of FAO, Dr. José Graziano da Silva.

The conference held by FAO was focused on discussion of the challenges and opportunities of various countries in Asia Pacific in relation with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), launched by FAO in 2030. The conference also discussed the policies and regulations in the Asia-Pacific and the world region, over actions of hunger and poverty reduction, improvement of nutrition in the countries of Asia-Pacific, revitalization of the rural economy, and growth of blue.

On the last day of the conference, round-table sessions for specific discussions about and the role of youth in the future of agriculture were also held. The discussion was held due to lack of interest of youth to be involved in the agricultural sector. They hope the future will be many youth engaged in this sector to further promote the agricultural sector. *
