[Unpad.ac.id, 5/04/2016] Four students of Magister of Enviromental Science (PSMIL) Graduate School Universitas Padjadjaran have completed their study in Mie University, Japan, in a double degree program between PSMIL Unpad and Graduate School and Faculty of Bioresources Mie University. They are Gunawan Muhammad, Septaris Bernadetta Parhusip, Adella Anfidina Putri, and Indra Fardhani.

After 12 months of study, they passed and participated in Graduation Ceremony at Mie University on March 25, 2016. The event was also attended by Director of the Graduate School (SPs), Prof. Dr. Ir. Hendarmawan, M.Sc. After graduating from Mie University, four students would still continue their defense in PSMIL to earn an M.I.L degree from Padjadjaran University.
“The opportunity to learn in Japan has provided many life lessons. It was an amazing experience for not only studying environmental science from various perspectives, but also learning to cooperate with the international community,” said Adella.
Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Hendarmawan said Unpad want to develop other activities aside from double degree program, in the form of research, student exchange and other activities. This was in line with plan of student exchange that has been prepared by Mie University and Unpad since 2014. A total of 10 students from Undergraduate Level Faculty of Bioreseources Mie University in Japan is to undergo classes in Biological Studies Program Faculty of Mathematics and Science, Universitas Padjadjaran in Summer Seminar program in August 2016.
Currently, 12 of Unpad alumni, both alumni of PSMIL or other majors at Universitas Padjadjaran, are studying in Mie University. Most of them are continuing their studies at Ph.D. level. As for the grantor of their study was Monbukagakusho/MEXT Scholarship Government of Japan and BPKLN Kemendikbud. One of the double degree program alumni has chosen to work in the tourism sector in Japan by bringing ecotourism.
Apart from their activities in carrying out studies and research at Mie University, the alumni and students of Unpad also have another excellent achievement. Besides active in participating in conference in Japan and outside Japan, some students have published in international journals. Sri Een Hartatik, double degree graduate who are continuing her doctoral studies at Mie University, earned achievements as the best poster at the 127th Annual Meeting of Japanese Forest Society in Japan. Similarly, double degree Alumni Batch I, Fitrie M. Pratiwy, won the best oral presentation at the Aquaculture Europe 2015: International Conference and Exposition in Rotterdam Netherlands.*
