Vegetable Cluster “Katata” Won National Best Subsector Horticulture

[Unpad.ac.id, 29/04/2016] Vegetable Cluster “Katata” received Governor of Bank Indonesia award as the best national cluster for horticulture sub-sector categories. The award was presented at BI Governor Appreciation Program Performance Control of Inflation Bank Indonesia in Jakarta on Monday (25/04).

Vegetable Cluster “Katata” received award from Governor of Bank Indonesia, Agus Martowardojo, during the BI Governor Appreciation Program Performance Control of Inflation Bank Indonesia in Jakarta, Monday (25/04).*

The award was awarded for Cluster Vegetables “Katata”’s support program that was considered successful in controlling inflation, particularly horticultural commodities. This success was graded by several indicators, such as strong social capital, institutional leadership and vision, partnership and networking, the economic empowerment of local/community, market access, infrastructure support, innovation, competence and expertise, environmentally friendly, and stakeholder support. Cluster Vegetables “Katata” was developed within framework of “Pentahelix” collaboration that was initiated by Universitas Padjadjaran in cooperation with Bank Indonesia West Java and Bandung regency government as a government institution, Hero Supermarket Group as market participants, as well as the support of the mass media “Pikiran Raykat”. This multi-stakeholder collaboration is intended to improve competitiveness and welfare of farming community, in this case is the farmers members of farmer groups “Katata” in Pangalengan, Bandung Regency.

katata2Collaboration vegetable cluster “Katata” development is is part of study output conducted by Unpad researchers chaired by Lecturer of Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Tomy Perdana. The research was funded by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education through a national strategic research grants (Pusnas). The study has produced some co-innovation in the form of improved seed carrots and green beans, supply chain system model “leagile”, business spin off, co-branding, and appropriate technology “Rainsheltr”. One part of these studies has been published on the “Helice” Volume 4 Issue December 4, 2015, an international magazine published by the Association of International Triplehelix.

The most important of these studies is its ability to improve competitiveness and income of farmers through science and technology and social engineering-based market. The indicator is carrots and beans production that was able to replace imported products from China in the modern market at competitive prices and provide benefits leverage for farmers, which is equal to 100% of the cost of production.*
