Strengthening Strategic Alliance in West Java, Unpad Visited Sukabumi

[Unpad.ac.id, 5/04/2016] As one of steps to realize continuation in providing benefits to community, Universitas Padjadjaran held a Nyaah ka Jabar Program Working Visit and also introduced Padjadjaran University’s Strategic Alliance program – West Java (Jabar Asup) to City and District of Sukabumi, Monday (4/04).

Working visit began with exploring Ujung Genteng coast and Ciletuh Geopark in Sukabumi. Ciletuh Geopark is one of our national geoparks that currently pursuing geopark status as an internationally recognized by UN agency, UNESCO. Since its establishment, team of Faculty of Geology Unpad was fully involved in Ciletuh geopark development.

After exploring Ujung Genteng coast and Ciletuh Geopark on 2-3 April 2016, Rector who was accompanied by Vice Rectors, Deans, and Directors, visited the Regional Secretariat in Palabuhanratu Sukabumi. During the visit, Rector and leaders of Unpad was received by Vice Regent of Sukabumi, Adjo Sardjono, along with a number of working units (SKPD) leaders in Sukabumi regency.

“Region development cannot be done only by the region itself, requiring interconnections with other areas, synergy with others. To encourage region development, we initiated Asup Jabar, “said Rector.

Furthermore, Rector said that essential requirement of region development is is human resources. With sufficient human resources in the area, development implementation, from planning to implementation, would also run well.

“One function of universities is to strengthen human resource capacity. We’re here to help improving human resource capabilities in accordance with characteristics of the problems that occur in their respective regions, “said Rector.

Vice Regent of Sukabumi, Adjo Sardjono, welcomed Universitas Padjadjaran initiative in the region to speed up development in the region. “This cooperation can hopefully support us, especially during ASEAN Economic Community. We are grateful for Universitas Padjadjaran commitment in helping development in West Java, “said Vice Regent who was also an alumnus of FISIP Unpad.

After the dialog, Rector appointed Dean of Faculty of Geology Engineering Unpad, Dr. Vijaya Isnaniawardhani, Ir., MT., as Unpad Ambassador to communicate with team from Sukabumi Regency.

Meanwhile in city of Sukabumi, Rector and leaders of Unpad was received by Mayor of Sukabumi H. Mohamad Muraz, S.H., MM. along with SKPD officials and representatives of high school/equivalent in the city.

“Local governments have less speed in regional development if they do not cooperate with university since many scientific studies also involve theoretical study. Local governments often experience hitch in a routine therefore synergy is indeed needed to be built, “said Mayor of Sukabumi.

During the meeting, in addition to reintroduce Padjadjaran Nyaah ka Jabar affirmation program for high school graduates/equivalent, Unpad also offered Star Project scholarship, as cooperation of Financial Supervisory Agency (BPKP) and Unpad, for civil servants financial managers to study in Master of Management Faculty of Economics and Business Unpad.

“The allocation is one person per city/regency in West Java. Any empty allocation would be transferred to other city/regency. Unpad will support academic fee and living allowance,” said Dean of FEB Unpad, Nury Effendi, SE., MA., PhD.*
