“Professor To the Village” Program Starting in KKNM July-August 2016

[Unpad.ac.id, 18/06/2016] Implementation of Student Field Work Community Engagement Program for Lecturer (KKNM PPMD) Integrative July-August 2016 will involve active Professor as Field Assistants (DPL). This is set in relation to the implementation of “Professor To the Village” program as a form of real contribution of the professors of Universitas Padjadjaran in the development of areas in West Java.

Director of Research and Community Engagement Unpad Dr. Ayi Bahtiar, M.Si., said the professors will run community service program in the area designated as KKNM location. The program aims to help develop the potential of each region.

“With the remarkable ability of the professors, the program will give a tremendous impact for the development of areas in West Java,” said Dr. Ayi during the briefing with the Professors for KKNM PPMD Integrative Period July-August 2016 at Faculty of Communication Universitas Padjadjaran, Saturday (18/06).

PPMD Program of “Professor To the Village ” was based on Academic Leadership Grant (ALG) program. In the program, professors return to their capacity as an academic leader to encourage the strengthening of research activity and engagement, to encourage and generate practicality for the community and the region, especially in West Java.

Dr. Ayi says that students with professors will be involved in implementing engagement programs in rural locations KKNM. The program itself will be determined by PPMD draft proposal submitted to the Directorate for Research and PKM or by meeting the officials of the relevant local area development programs that have been implemented in the region.

“The main point is for the program to be able to develop the potential of the village. We are focusing on how the village can be productive for it to increase its economy,” said Dr. Ayi.

The PPMD will run for four months, from July to October. For the first months (July-August), these activities are integrated with KKNM implementation. Dr. Ayi said that during KKNM PPMD implementation will be carried out by Professors and students participating in KKNM.

By involved in PPMD activities, KKNM student can contribute in developing the potential of the village. It will also be the effort of professors to improve their academic competence.

As for the month afterward, professors will take the team to evaluate the continuation of implemented programs. Teams can consist of lecturers and students of the faculty or inter-faculty.

“The students involved in the KKNM evaluation period are not only the studentsin the program, but also coaching students upon invitation from the professors to join the village program,” he said.

Although activities are conducted in locations KKNM, Dr. Ayi said that PPMD future activities could be integrated with inter-villages, subdistricts, and districts. Thus, these activities would be integrated with the regional development program undertaken by Unpad in 27 City/Regency in West Java.

The implementation of the KKNM this time will be conducted in four regencies: Purwakarta (28 villages), Subang (24 villages), Indramayu (20 villages), and Majalengka (46 villages) by the number of professors involved around 59 people. Each professor will lead the PPMD in two villages.*
