Coordinator of SMUP Unpad, Muchtaridi, M.Si., PhD., Apt., said that the selection process included interview of students with potential candidate and lecturer from the chosen program. The interview was in relation with motiviation and independence, and also the proposed research proposal.

“There are two interviewer, in order to generate a more accurate selection grade,” said Muchtaridi during the SMUP event, Saturday (4/06).

Muchtaridi said there are several different mechanisms in the SMUP process. This year English Ability Test (TKBI) and Advance Learning Ability Test (TKBA) were held as vocal point of passing score for the participants to be admitted or not. TKBI was held at Campus FIB Padjadjaran University on May 23-June 9 while TKBA was held in Services Bureau and Innovation Psychology (BPIP) Building Faculty of Psychology Unpad.

Furthermore Muchtaridi explained that there are reasons for the inclusion of TKBI and TKBA as the deciding factor for SMUP admission for Magister Program. For TKBI, it aims to make students able to compete globally. This is an effort to encourage the strengthening Unpad as an international campus.

As for TKBA, based on the results of the research team from Padjadjaran FAPSI, TKBA results are directly proportional to the ability to complete the study. “The higher TKBA score, the faster the completion of the studies. By conducting the test, we are filtering the prospect. If there were many untimely studies, it would affect Unpad accreditation, “said Muchtaridi.

For doctoral program, before following the selection interviews, participants must procure a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Professor to determine the potential promoters. Muchtaridi explained that to obtain LoA, participants could conduct intensive communication with professors at Universitas Padjadjaran in accordance with the expertise and research to be conducted.

“The goal is for students to be completely focused so that once they completed the first semester, the second semester is expected to direct the trial of Proposed research,” said Muchtaridi.

Thus, the percentage of SMUP grade at this time include 35% for the proposal, 30% for interviews, 15% for TKBI, and 20% for TKBA, as well as LoA from professor for the doctoral program, or a letter of recommendation from the study program for the Master program.

SMUP was held at several locations on campus in Jatinangor or Bandung. At this time there is also a selection of participants who did the interview via teleconference. In the future, said Muchtaridi, the implementation of TKBA and TKBI could also be conducted using the Computer Based Test (CBT) online. This method will be accessible for people anywhere, without having to come directly to campus Unpad.

“The interview could also use Skype/teleconference, or direct meeting,” said Muchtaridi.*
