Before Joining the Society, New Students Met Village Officials in Jatinangor

[Unpad.ac.id, 24/08/2016] Universitas Padjadjaran new Student for Academic Year 2016/2017 attended anjangsana gathering or the visit of village chiefs from the subdistrict around Jatinangor. The event was held in in several locations on campus Jatinangor, Wednesday (24/08), with Head or village officials from 12 villages in Jatinangor.

“The goal is to get acquaintance with village chiefs, meeting with the academic community. Usually academic community always comes down to the village community, now it is the villagers who visit, anjangsana, to the academic community to the campus, “said TPB Coordinator of Sports, Arts and Creativity Course Universitas Padjadjaran, Dr. Wahju Gunawan.

The Heads or village officials were present and given the opportunity to learn more about new students of Unpad by directly interacting with them. In this activity, the village chief also revealed the condition of their villages, including the problems and potential.

From the description of the condition of the village, the students who have been divided into a number of groups will then be required to draft ideas for rural communities program. This activity is also related to Sports, Arts and Creativity subject that they will take in the first semester. Thus, after anjangsana of Village Head, the students will also directly join the community in Jatinangor.

“Introduction is done as early as possible for village chief. The Village Heads are also able to meet with the new students who have been divided in 12 locations as early as possible,” said Dr. Wahju.

When joining the community later, the students were divided into 496 groups to be in RT scope (Neighborhood), and will be guided by the Coordinator of the RW (few RT scopes) guided by 136 lecturers in Unpad. In addition to the faculty, the new student activities will also guided by senior students as a student assistant/facilitator field.

“There’s also village coordinator who is responsible for the implementation of the teaching and learning process subjects Sports, Arts and Creativity in society. This category such as ‘class in society’ or extended class, “said Dr. Wahju.

Dr. Wahju also explained that in this course several stages have to be passed by new students, including internal consolidation, exploration (joining the community), and external consolidation program by creating idea for the village. Furthermore, the idea is to be implemented in the program with the communities. The ideas and programs developed in the framework of the students in addition to solve existing problems in the community, as well as to develop the existing potential.

“It is expected that new students can understand more about the people and formed in characters. This is also an implementation of Principal Scientific Pattern Unpad and also in accordance with the vision of Unpad,” he hoped.

Although this process is implemented for a semester, Dr. Wahju expects public awareness for village involvement to stay with the students. This awareness is based on mutual need of the society.

“It’s actually a part of concern to the community Unpad Jatinangor. In the future, it is expected that Unpad together with other universities can be in synergy and systematically develop this Jatinangor region,” said Dr. Wahju. *
