Functional Associate of Social and Cultural Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) Jabar, Drs. Ahmad Pranusetya, M.T., said that one reason of three state universities in West Java to open a multi-campus education was the low Gross Enrollment Ratios (GER) of university in West Java.

“Implementation of a program of study outside the domicile/multilingual education campus is that in addition to APK PT improvement, there should be equality in higher education,” said Ahmad when accompanying Unpad team in ” Socialization of Multi Campus Unpad Education Program in Pangandaran for Bachelor Degree” in SMAN 1 Tasikmalaya Thursday (04/08).

Unpad Team consisted of Head of Academic Administration Bureau Drs. Sudarma, MM, as well as the staff of the Directorate of Education Opid Sugiarto, S.Si. Besides Tasikmalaya, on the same day the socialization was also performed in Ciamis and Banjar.

Multi-campus education is effective to lower expensive tuition of universities. Ahmad said that the distance of an area with a PTN location is one factor that caused high costs.

Therefore two locations have been assigned to the two state administrations in West Java to multi-campus education. The location is decided based on the criteria in terms of infrastructure, social and cultural side, up to the potential of the citizen. Based on the monitoring, Cirebon becomes the venue of the multi campus of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), and Sukabumi for Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB).

Universitas Padjadjaran, said Ahmad, set their own location in Pangandaran for multi-campus education. “We initiated the opening of a Unpad multi campus in Pangandaran because initially it did not include the area occupied PTN. Unpad sees this as a challenge to improve education in Pangandaran, “he said.

Meanwhile, Sudarma said the opening of Unpad multi campus education in Pangandaran is expected to improve education in the region East Priangan. “Unpad always been committed to support West Java community in development in line with expectations West Java provincial government,” said Sudarma.

To that end, multi-campus education is an advantage not only for the people of Pangandaran, but also the people in Banjar, Ciamis, and Tasikmalaya Regencies.

Sudarma said that all learning activities in Multi campus Unpad are centered in Pangandaran, such as Procession Admissions, until the Joint Preparation Stages program for new students FY 2016/2017. This activity is also no different from learning activities of students on campus Jatinangor. Multi-campus education students also are eligible for a scholarship to study at Universitas Padjadjaran.

With the five courses opened in Pangandaran, Sudarma said that these study programs are priority development area for East Priangan. Each study program has capacity of 30 people, with 50% of its capacity prioritized for prospective students from the districts of Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Banjar, and Pangandaran.

“We hope that people in the district can take use this opportunity,” said Sudarma.

Besides socializing Multi Campus Education Unpad, the team also socialized the opening Applied Degree Programme (S.Tr), as well as the opening of the department of Primary Physician Services (equivalent Specialist) at Universitas Padjadjaran. *
