[Unpad.ac.id, 2/11/2016] Since the beginning of her study at the Faculty of Communication Science (Fikom) Universitas Padjadjaran, Soraya Sri Anggarawati had had the determination to achieve Grade Point Average of 4.00. The efforts finanly became fruitful. Soraya managed to finish her study in less than 4 years and was also appointed Valedictorian for Graduate Program at this year’s first batch of Graduation Ceremony Academic Year 2016/2017.

When met at the Unpad Public Relations Office, Jln. Dipati Ukur No. 35 Bandung, Wednesday (2/11), this graduate of Communication Management program said that she was pleased and proud of the achievement although she acknowledged that many of her friends performed better than she did. Soraya was officially graduated at the Session IV of Unpad Graduation Ceremony today at Graha Sanusi Hardjadinata Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung.
“I did not expect this because I think there are a lot better than me,” said she who was in Jakarta, June 4, 1994. Soraya passed the thesis defense on July 21, 2016 with a thesis titled “Komunikasi Instruksional sebagai Sarana Pengembangan Aktualisasi Diri Penyandang Tunanetra”.
Soraya was motivated to achieve a perfect GPA after noticing her seniors who graduated with 4.00 GPA. Although some doubted the intention, Soraya kept the spirit to prove that she could.
The achievement did not burden Soraya as she admitted that she still could spare time between studying the course materials and joining organizations as well as meeting with friends. According to her, by socializing and discussing with friends and seniors, she could perform a lot better in campus.
“Because sharing in discussions give us many inputs,” said Soraya.
Soraya joined organizations that could help her with course materials. In fact, she could implement the materials from the classroom in the organization. During her study, Soraya was active in the Student Association of Communication Management and Kelompok Jatinangor 21 (KJ 21). In these organizations, Soraya chose to participate in the division related to human resources management. Her activities were also closely related to the concentration of her choice at the college, namely Communication Training & Consulting.
“So if asked if the 4.00 GPA is ambitious and I only studied to achieve it, I don’t think so. The most important this is to be diligent and persistent,” said the first daughter of of Adhi Purnomo and Herwinarni.
For Soraya, there were three principles of learning, namely listening, recording, and repeating. Her studying method included listening in the class, taking notes and making them as attractive as possible so she would not get bored when reading the notes, and repeating the materials by having discussions with her friends.
Soraya believed that her achievement was not “special” as many students could perform better, and her key to success included discipline and time management. She also tried not to compare her skills with others, because she believed that every individual must have their respective strengths.
“Believe in yourself. God will lead the way. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be,” she concluded. *
