[Unpad.ac.id, 22/11/2016] Re disaster, it is not enough just to make the information and then disseminate it. Such information should be ensured to be understood, leading to changes in the behavior of society.

“Basically, the community would be saved if the people obtain the right information and are able to change their behavior in order to understand the disaster,” said Deputy of Prevention and Preparedness of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Ir. B. Wisnu Widjaja, M.Sc. as one of the speakers in the National Conference “Community Based Disaster Risk Management XII”, held in cooperation with the Unpad Indonesian Society for Disaster Management (MPBI) in the Multipurpose Room Building 2, Floor 4, Jln. Dipati Ukur No. 35 Bandung, Tuesday (22/11).
Furthermore Vishnu revealed that many of the makers of disaster information only focused on the “production” only. They are satisfied when the information is made, and presented in a number of media. Yet, according to Wisnu, changing people’s behavior for disaster response are more important things. Such information should be able to mobilize the community to be able to confront and save themselves from disaster.
“(Information) only is not enough. Understanding only is not enough, “said Wisnu.
The event was also attended by Rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad. According to the Rector, in facing of disaster risk, we should use anticipatory approach; prevention is not enough, nor is responsiveness. Now, disaster risk management is dominated by responsive acts. In facing the risk it required to be done through the academic strength.
“If our research is strong, the mitigation should be very strong. Our ability to record, prepare, taking into account the risk that the actions carried out fundamentally sound,” said Rector.
With a strong foundation, the next thing to do is to convince the public and the government. Therefore, networks had to be strong in cooperation with various parties, and share the “who does what” scheme.
“By wanting to understand each other, sharing roles, building trust. If there is no synergy, it is difficult for us to overcome disaster, “said Rector.
On the sidelines of the conference, signing of the Charter of Cooperation between Unpad with Indonesian Society for Disaster Management was conducted. The charter of Cooperation was signed by the Rector with MPBI Chairman, Eko Teguh Paripurno. *
