[Unpad.ac.id, 28/11/2016] Rector Universitas Padjadjaran, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, have signed Agreement with West Java Government Ahmad Heryawan, and leaders of seven other agencies Construction and Development of National Geopark Region Ciletuh-Palabuhan Rabu. The signing was done in in Manglayang Meeting Room Gedung Sate Bandung, Monday (28/11).

Besides Unpad and West Java Provincial Government, the draft Memorandum of Understanding was also signed by the Local Government of Sukabumi, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, PT. Perkebunan Nusantara VII PT. Bio Farma (Persero), the Regional Company Services and Tourism, Nature Society Pakidulan Sukabumi (PAPSI), and the Communication Forum Activator Tourism Group (FK. Kompepar) Sukabumi.
“Joint Understanding this is a formal legal to integrate licensing activity in terms of the management of the National Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhan Ratu, and empowerment of communities in a collective agreement,” said the Governor.
On the occasion, Rector said that the National Geopark Region Ciletuh-Palabuhan Ratu has a great potential in economic development, especially after getting world recognition by UNESCO in 2017.
During this time, Rector added, the development has touched the three aspects, namely geo-diversity, bio-diversity, and cultural diversity. According to him, the main challenge actually exists on cultural diversity, considering that touch on geo-diversity and bio-diversity is strong enough.
“It is precisely the challenge in cultural diversity, especially social engineering. Because if this is not done well since the beginning, this must not become a big issue in the background,” said Rector.
Rector also said, in terms of construction and development of this area, Unpad will touch the social aspects, including the aspects of community development. This will be Unpad main focus, as well as other basic things.

Governor responded positively to Unpad plan. He expected progress to be achieved in the construction of the National Geopark Region Ciletuh-Palabuhan Ratu will not cause social problems.
“What we find is a blessing, the kindness of the presence of this Geopark. Not becoming social problems, “said the Governor.
Interviewed after the event, Chairman of the Disaster Research Center Geopark and Geology, Prof. Mega Fatimah Rosana, PhD revealed that in the future, they plan to establish Unpad Research Center in the Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhan Ratu. Hopefully, all faculties in Unpad can get involved in the development of this region, especially in the faculties of social sciences.
“Hopefully in the future all the faculty can get involved there. Because so many objects that can be done, “said Prof. Mega.
Unpad involvement in the development of this area has been going on since a long time, starting from the determination of regional geo diversity studies to determine regional boundaries geopark. In addition to the involvement of Unpad Geological Sciences, a variety of disciplines in Unpad have already played a role as science-related bio-diversity and cultural studies.
