In FMIPA, Prof. Shiono gave a lecture to Unpad students of Department of Chemistry for Organic Chemistry course and Structure Elucidation. The courses were given in five meetings in one week. In addition to giving lectures, Prof. Shiono would also give final exams and grades to students.

“Prof. Shiono is involved in our curriculum, so eight meetings with me, the rest of the meetings are with Prof. Shiono,” explained Professor of Chemistry, Prof. Unang Supratman.

The Organic Chemistry lecture of Prof. Shiono was given to students of the Undergraduate 3rd semester, and courses given to the structure elucidation of undergraduate in the 7th semester, and also students from graduate and post-graduate program.

The Prof. Shiono involvement is expected to further improve the quality of Unpad graduates. Prof. Shino was considered to be very skilled and possessed wide range of experience in the field of Organic Chemistry and Structure Elucidation. Prof. Shiono’s experience in the field of Organic Chemistry and Structure Elucidation is also expected to be shared with the academic community of Unpad.

“We invited lecturer from outside so we can see the quality of learning. It turned out that we are not much different. The students will also have more confidence and gain more ability,” said Prof. Unang.

In addition to improve the quality of learning in Unpad, involvement of Prof. Shiono in learning activities in Unpad is expected to increase cooperation between the two party, including in terms of research and joint publications.

“Our level will be equally increased,” said Prof. Unang.

During this time, the cooperation of Unpad and Yamagata University has been ranging on joint research, student exchanges and joint publications. Starting five years ago, Prof. Shiono and Prof. Unang conducted joint research on bioactive compounds in plant mangrove in Indonesia, and have produced a number of international publications. According to plan, in 2016, the five best students in Unpad Organic Chemistry will be included in the summer program at the Yamagata University, Japan. *
