Nur and hes friends focused on the preparation of dental and oral health improvement programs for children with special needs. This program is based on the children of this group need more attention in maintaining the cleanliness of their teeth and mouth. Limitations in carrying out movements are one of the obstacles.
The four of them modified the toothbrush to make it easier for children with impairment to brush their teeth. This modification was made by adding an elastomeric material called putty which can be printed according to the child’s hand.
Its user education was provided through several methods. Firstly, through the methods of tell, show, and do (TSD). The children were educated about the importance of dental and oral health. This socialization process also involved parents and teachers to support children to maintain the health of their teeth and mouth.
This method is an implementation of observational principles and theories in psychology. The theory explains, every individual has the ability to observe and imitate behaviors that arise in their environment. For this reason, the involvement of parents and teachers is needed because of the direct interaction that is established with the children.
The next method is to encourage children to care for themselves (self-care) through educational games. This game uses multisensory and individualization principles. Another method used is the home care method that is given to parents through training and debriefing table modules to brush children’s teeth in the morning and night.
