[Unpad Media Channel] Two Unpad Marine Science students, acting as members of the Komitmen Research Group, presented the results of their research at the 2nd UN Ocean Decade Regional Conference & 11th WESTPAC International Marine Science Conference, which was held in Bangkok on April 22-25, according to a press release received by Unpad Media Channel. The two students are Choerunnisa Febriani and Muhammad Hafidz Ilmi.

Choerunnisa presented her research, “Marine Heatwave During the El Niño Southern Oscillation Based on Satellite Derived in the Banda Sea”. Meanwhile, Hafidz did the same by presenting his research, “Water Mass Transformation and Seafloor Sediment from Jala Citra-III Expedition in Flores Sea”. The two presenters were under the guidance of BRIN Research Center for Geological Resources’ Dr. Ir. Noor Cahyo D. Aryanto.

In carrying out their research, which also acts as their final projects, the two students attained full support grants from different sources. Choerunnisa was funded by the WESTPAC Travel Grants, while Hafidz received a support grant from BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency) and Komitmen Research Group.

Hafidz in particular admitted that this was his first experience participating in an international event. He added that he was elated and honored to have participated in a WESTPAC conference, in which he expanded on the knowledge he had gained.

As for Choerunnisa, she said that the event widened, inspired collaboration in, and developed her professional career. She further added that the experience gave her new motivation to keep contributing to marine science, and the continuation of cross-border collaborations for Indonesian, and international, marine welfare.

The President-Director of Komitmen Research Group, Noir Primadona Purba, M.Si., explained that the Group does indeed aim to both publish and establish relations internationally, while focusing on marine instrumentation and surveys. The event provides great benefits for students to reach the career heights they aspire, and to broaden their horizons on the world in general. (rilis/ICP)*
