[Unpad Media Channel] A group of Universitas Padjadjaran students have created a hair tonic product to treat hair fall and dandruff. The tonic is made from organic waste consisting of rice bran, pandan leaves, and mint leaves.

Naming the product “Freshair”, it was created by students from different study programs. Among them, Ayu Nafitsya Divaniani and Elsa Syafitri Suciani come from the Agrotechnology study program, Talitha Zahira Hendriadi studies Agribusiness, and Salsabila Athaya and Anindya Calista Nabila Putri studies at the Pharmacy study program. The group is under the supervision of Vira Kusuma Dewi, Ph.D., a professor at the Faculty of Agriculture.

The product was created as part of the Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa Kewirausahaan (Student Creativity Program – Entrepreneurship), commonly abbreviated as PKM-K.

“Rice bran waste contains γ-Oryzanol, an antioxidant which can moisturize the scalp, pandan leaves contain antimicrobial substances which can minimize fungal growth which contributes to dandruff, and the mint provides a calming menthol aroma,” explained Divaniani in a release received by Unpad Media Channel.

Freshair is also made up of relatively tiny particles, since it was made using nanotechnology. Therefore, Freshair provides optimal absorption on the scalp.

The product is packaged in a long nozzle spray bottle which is practical to be used wherever and whenever. The secondary packaging also uses a box made from ivory, which is more environmentally friendly.

“Freshair has a great chance to penetrate the Indonesian hair product market. This can be seen from the shift of consumer behavior from conventional products to more environmentally friendly ones,” explained Divaniani. (release/ICP)*
